Impatient drivers

I was driving to my brother's house just before lunch for our family Christmas dinner when I saw an old guy knocked off his old Dawes girl's-framed bike by an oncoming driver too impatient to wait until there was sufficient room to overtake. The driver had clipped the old guy's handlebars, which resulted in him falling onto the wing of the car and then onto the ground.

I stopped immediately, as did the guy in the car behind the "villain". The villain just drove on. It would have been impossible for the villain not to have noticed. Unfortunately, none of us got his reg plate. We were all concentrating on the fallen cyclist.

Anyway, I concede that both of the stopped cars were relatively inconveniently located in the road. Both were against the kerb but it was a single carriageway so both lines of traffic had to negotiate priority while we picked up the old chap and his bent bike.

But despite conceding the inconvenience of our cars, I was still upset by the sheer nastiness of a significant number of drivers who hooted, revved their engines and mouthed abuse from their cars as they were held up for up to 2 whole minutes as we sat the old fella down on a low wall and ensured he was OK to proceed (he didn't want further/official help).

It's usually the same reason why cyclists get hit. Everybody is in such a hurry to get nowhere.
Weather it be motorists or cyclists.
