I'm thinking of getting some 200 cell cats installed at the same time as a new clutch (it wouldn't be Xmas without an unplanned car expense!) and wanted to know what to expect in terms of noise levels? I love the sound of the V8 with fuse 22 pulled and didn't want to create something so loud it annoys the neighbours,or cause a loud drone on motorway. Has anyone gone with 200 cell cats and std rear silencer? Is the noise level 'managed' by reinserting fuse22?, what's startup like, I can't remember whether exhaust bypass valves are active or not on start up, any feedback appreciated!

We have BR manifolds which lead to 200 cell racing cats as fitted to a Vantage S, the standard silencer was removed because even at idle it was deemed to be too loud! It was then fitted with a 4.3 V8 silencer to quieten things down a bit. wink The exhaust valves are retained so we can have a bit of peace if we wish , not that we ever do cos she sounds magnificent biggrin

Cheers Rob, so you put a 4.3 silencer on as a replacement for the 4.7 v8vs unit and that was enough to bring down noise levels? Interesting, mine has the std silencer so maybe would be okay, thanks.

As you have a 4.3 I'd say just the cats would give a good increases in noise with out it being too much
If it were me I'd get Bamfords "budget" set of cats and headers at £3.5k, more pwoer & torque with a great sound

Thanks, just tried starting the car with fuse 22 back in, I'd forgotten how much more quiet that makes it, way too quiet actually but would be effective if I thought the race cats were too loud.

I had 200 cell cats with the standard muffler on my 4.3 and the noise level can easily be managed as long as you keep the engine speed under 4000 RPM. Ultimately I installed a Miltek rear box which was great around town but really droned on the highway. I think the best set-up is the 200 cell cats with the standard muffler... You will notice a nice improvement in throttle response and seat of the pants acceleration. But if you really want the right set-up, buy a Vantage S.... I did with a six speed transmission (old school) and whoa... A car transformed.

I've fitted 200 cell performance cats to my car, have a look at this thread. I'm more than happy with the results.

Hi... I'm feeling the need to play with this too... What's the budget set about?? I have a pro drive upgraded 4.3.. I've not spoken to BR yet but think I need to!! Would be interested to hear what you recommend :-)

Not sure on the exact details
It was designed to give the best "bang for buck" against competitors
I'm over there next week so will find out for you!

Thanks for the extra information, seems like a very popular mod with everyone that's had this done and a good alternative if you don't want to go straight for the complete headers & CATs conversion (manifolds can come later of course..), thanks for all the PMs too, will let you know how I get on, cheers, Lee

Is there a difference in the 4.7 and 4.3 silencer?

To answer your question , Yes! Then the Vantage S silencer is different to a standard 4.7. As explained BR elected to fit a 4.3 silencer to Pearl because she was too loud with the standard S fitment. Having been fortunate to own 2 Vantage S models both of which had been BR'd , Pearl has more of a snarl and crackle which we love plus we now boast 470 BHP which is some 8BHP up on Purdey (R.I.P.)

Talk to Mike at BR tell him what you fancy doing and your proposed budget believe me they really can make your car sing.

S/Sports exhaust/MY12.25 4.7 > 4.3 > early 4.7 decreasing loudness on stock exhaust with valves open
The cat configuration change from 4.3 to 4.7 makes a difference as well

Thanks for that. I went from a 4.3 to a 4.7 recently and would swear the new one is quieter.
I am educated.
Ta.

Out of interest, what was the Cat config change?

Yours is an "early" 4.7 ie pre MY12.25 changes, my old 4.7 was very quiet frown

You confirmed my thinking. I was doubting myself!! Thanks for that.
That puts 200 cell cats on my list for next year, if they are compatible with the cat config you mentioned.

Rob could have swapped boxes with me for free, win-win!!!!

I was down at Bamford Rose this morning, during conversations we talked about the "entry level" package
The package consists of a reworked header with a slightly less efficient collector, this means you get less power at the redline but peak torque remains unchanged at the same rpm. It also includes N400 intakes & sport cats cell cats installed at £3.5k (+VAT)

IMHO about the best value for money performance and sound upgrade to a V8 Vantage

Excuse my ignorance but has anyone who has fitted 200 cell cats to a 4.7 V8 had any troubles with the management light coming on???

BR have fitted 200 cell cats to my present and last V8S. I am happy to report no engine management light or error codes have appeared. That would be over a combined mileage of 18000 miles. smile
