Any Ukelele players here?

Long story short, I mentioned to my dad a few months ago that I was thinking about buying one. Ended up buying a bass instead but I got a 'Learn to play Ukelele' book for Christmas so I'm thinking, why not?

I see loads online but I have no idea what I'm looking at. I'm reasonable on guitar and bass but I'd like to try something different. So where do I go from here? What am I looking for in a Ukelele? Any advice appreciated. To add, it's only about playing for fun and killing time, I'm not looking to be a virtuoso.

you would do a lot worse than picking up a makala dolphin,( put some aquila stings on though as the standard ones arent great). some of the cheap wooden ones are a bit iffy, but the plastic dolphin punches well above its weight

I will see if I can find the thread I started on here about 4 years ago IIRC.

Still love playing it and have been inspired to try the banjo too, which is far more difficult!

Here goes

You will find you grow out of the £35 uke pretty quikly if you get the bug. If that happens, get to a decent music shop near you and try a few out. They will feel different and one you like will not necessarily be one I would like to play.
