It's a 2006 407 V6 HDi Coupe, by the way.
What would you look for/at first?
TIA

Then everything that you'd look at/check when you buy any car. Assuming you haven't actually "paid" for it yet, if it's not as described, then don't complete the sale.

Was it a well known ebay car re-seller?

I would ask for the V% reference number and REG - then un a HPI check

I 'won' and EP3 civic from 'carswithnoreserve' last week and the above showed that it has lost 8k miles from the last MOT ia month ago n which it had low oil, engine warning lights and bald tyres all around....none of this was described in the advert....

Other than that HPI status, panel gaps, service history, functionality of all electrics (being French) and longevity of serviceable items

Make sure there are 2 working keys (Including remote function). They tend to go faulty and are quite expensive to replace

Thanks for the heads up. smile

If you have the Registration No., get the V5C ref. and use this for free:

https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history-vehicle

You can get a bit of information from the MoT history that can help when buying unseen from eBay.

I couldn't make out the V5C ref. from that photo. I've yet to look to see how much that GTV V6 went for, I may have bid higher if I could figure out the V5C ref. and checked the MoT history.

You can use the V5C ref. OR the ref. of the last MoT A4 print out along with the Reg. No.

Thanks all for the salient advice.

I'm in Germany so the V5 bit doesn't apply. The car will have a Fahrzeugschein and Fahrzeugbrief which are the equivalent documents.

We'll see how things go when I get there to pick it up.

RE my sanity, you may very well have a point. I only bid because it looked a nice car and was ridiculously cheap.

6-year old French electrics, what could possibly go wrong?
Is the Jag 2.7 HDI unit reliable? Chain or belt?

Nothing like doing one's research after the event, eh?

smile Keep us updated. I read the Evo review on their website a few weeks ago, as a 406 V6 tickled my fancy and chanced across the 407 then.

You check nothing you've already bought it.

IIRC the 2.7HDI is a Ford/PSA unit - Jaguar tried using them in their cars but never ended up using them.

Used in many JLR products - my S-Type has one. 105,000 miles belt change, OP.

The driver and passenger windows tend to delaminate. Will look like a bit of fogging on a photo, until you get close up...

the engine was used in at least the S Type and XJ. Cambelt changes are expensive on these but overall they are very well put together cars, much better thank the saloon or estate.

Picking the thing up on Friday, so will update then.
I fear it's due for a belt change.
Is this an engine-out job, a la Fiat Coupe?
