I am fancying a new telly for the living room. As my 6-7 year old panasonic is 42 inch i was looking for something maybe 50-55 inches.

So what do you recommend? i was looking at these which for under 700 quid seem to get a lot of recommendations.http://www.stuff.tv/samsung/samsung-ps51f5500/review

What do the PH tv experts recon? I was trying to keep the cost fairly low but with budget creep lets say absolute max budget is £1000, hopefully less.

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dvd-blu-ray/televi... Looks pretty reasonable! I'm definitely tempted, but I only got a new TV last year so I doubt SWMBO would be overly pleased.

How about this model instead:

Though for £1000 max budget this one would just squeeze in if you're happy with 42":

I've been looking at similar to the OP although preferably 60" - is there any reason I shouldn't get a plasma?

These Samsungs are very good, I have one similar. My only criticism is that they do stuff that's all a bit OTT, the novelty of being able to change channels by waving at it or talking to it got tedious very quickly, but as a TV it's very good.

Just had a watch of my brother-in-law's Samsung. Knowing him, it was the cheapest he could get his hands on, but the picture and sound wasn't a patch on my 8 year old Toshiba. Personally I would go for something a little smaller but of a higher quality, advice that has served my wife well.

Samsung picture quality is very good, I replaced a highly regarded Pioneer with mine and it is very good. Sound though, is not. Like so many modern sets the expectation is that you will be using an external soundbar or home theatre, just using the built in speakers is not advisable.

I picked this up on Boxing Day.

Very impressed with it so far and the reviews are good for the ET60 range as well.

I got the 42" version of this before Christmas. Love it.

Well ended up nt getting a new tv in the end. Reason being my dad decided to get a new one himself so i now have a hand me down 46" samsung led, its about 3-4 years old but is full HD as opposed to my 720p panasonic.

As we didn't spend on a tv decided to buy a nice new tv unit and a samsung sound bar to replace my old panasonic dvd surround sound system.

I was blown away looking at the demo's of 4k tellys in currys so I think the money saved on a new TV now can go towards a 4k tv when there more reasonably priced and there's actually something to watch on them.
