V8 Vantage wing question
Discussion
Hi all,
Just a quick question to help me decide if I should go the insurance route or have it done privately.
I posted last week that I had a small dent in my front wing under the headlight:

Can this be repaired by conventional means by filling and spraying the wing?
What material is the wing made of that makes this repair more expensive?
I received a quote today of £1,800 plus VAT, and at that level of price I might as well go through the insurance.
It just seems like such a shame to use my insurance for damage which is seemingly so small.
Thanks guys

I believe, although someone may well correct me that it's GRP / plastic. Given the position of the damage, you could look to a well known smart repairs firm in your area where the cost would likely be <£200 rather than replacing the wing (I presume this is what the £1800 comes from).
I used WS to replace my front near side wing, a respray of the wing bonnet and door ensured a perfect match. That bill was north of £6k.
I'm insured with Chubb who offered me choice of repairers which meant no issues using WS rather than a dealer who would farm the work out.
Good luck with the repair

Its GRP but that looks like it has split under the paint to me, it needs a look from behind to check thatIf not a bit of a repair, if it has it's a new wing

Plastic wing, I had mine painted last month and it was £200 including VAT. I can't believe that a new wing would be necessary? I had my Tamora front spoiler repaired a couple of times as they're so low they 'ground' on country roads, that was GRP and much more damaged than your wing but it repaired perfectly well.
I caught the lower valance on my V8 Vantage and Mark O'Connor of http://www.superauto.co.uk did a fantastic job. Worth dropping him an email with picture to get his view. You can mention me if you like, he's done a number of repairs for me over the years.

IIRC, the composite that the front wings (sills and rear hatch also) are made of is RTM (resin transfer moulding). If not a bit of a repair, if it has it's a new wing

Hi, be careful with composite repairs. These vantage wing are prone to osmosis mine has been pretty bad. Third repair attempted. Wing baked three times so hopefully this time. So what I’m saying is. A cheap job might not completely secure a good lasting repair if moisture gets in. An approved Aston body shop won’t even comment on a guarantee It won’t happen with a new wing. Plastic on an Aston who would have thought it.
