I realise that this will be little like 'walking with dinosaurs' but here goes:

I am after a personal CD player with mains adaptor that I can plug into my amp and play back over my sound system. Trawling through the internet it appears that personal CD players do not come with mains adaptors anymore..or I can't find one anyway.

Can anyone help?

Or at least suggest one where I can buy a separate mains adaptor? Part numbers would be good if anypne out there is in the know?

NB I dont want a 'boombox' type thing nor do I want to catch up with the 21st century and transfer to MP3 etc smile

All I want is to replace my personal CD player which has decided to give up the ghost frown

There is a Sony on Ebay

It does run off mains, but it doesn't state if the mains adapter is supplied.

It runs off a 4.5v adapter with + to the center so shouldn't be hard to find one.

There are several others for sale on Ebay too.

Assuming these things still typically use a pair of AA batteries...

What about a set of 4x rechargeable AAs and a charger? Recharge one pair while using the other.

You'll pick up four NiMH AAs and a basic charger for around a tenner. smile

What Im after is a cheap no fuss solution. We hardly ever use the CD player (which is why I only found out about it over Xmas) as we are lazy sods now and tend to put a CD in the TV DVD player if its just the two of us. smile

I had an idea: most stand alone DVD players can play CDs I believe so perhaps picking up a cheap one of these and putting it through my amp/speakers may do the trick? Does this sound feasible?

Any DVD / BluRay player will play CDs.

They have a stereo output in the form of two RCA sockets, and your amplifier probably has matching RCA (AKA Phono) sockets for the inputs.

Just ensure that any player you buy has these sockets for a stereo output, and you'll be fine.
