Went out last night, and a puddle I couldnt avoid due to oncoming traffic was actually a rather large pothole.

Front NS on the 6 series. Now got a metalic rubbing sound, made worse by turning the wheel. Alloy and tyre are fine as far as I can see. Suspension looks fine and car drives ok. No warning lights, pressure of tyre fine.

Cant for the life of me see what it is, so the nice man from BMW assist is coming to look at it.

Could it be the metal shield behind the disk has become dislodged?

Make sure you take pics of the pothole and all the damage - I've had ruined tyres and alloys before and used that evidence for the council to pay up and I fix the bloody hole before someone else gets unlucky

Shattered wheel bearing (Hopefully!)

Can you get the wheel off the ground and check for movement?

I was going to say perhaps it has hit the metal guard behind the brake disc somehow. I'd be looking to straighten that out again just in case. Nice easy fix!

Let's hope it hasn't done any damage to the hub/wheel bearing.

Good luck!

Thanks. Fingers crossed it is just relating to the shield....

Area already photographed.

That's not a pothole, that's a crater.

Nasty. A pot hole like that put a car a few friends and I were travelling in in to a waterlogged ditch. Luckily, the car was on its way to a scrap yards.

hehe

Funnily enough, my newer phone died last week when I dropped it in a puddle, so I had to revert to this one. Ironically the battery life is better, it's smaller, lighter, and it's better at making calls!

That pothole has only been there for a few days since the flooding, so you will be lucky to get anywhere with the council I would have thought. Especially as it has been over christmas.

Not having a pop OP, but which wheel did you hit? That looks perfectly avoidable to me?

wow thats not small is it

If you can measure the hole size and depth as well and get some video of it

regarless of if its been there an hour or a month it should be dealt with by the roads people, all it needs now is a frost and it will jsut get bigger and bigger

hope the car is OK

Left front, was trying to keep out from the edge, thinking any hole in a puddle would be nearer the pavement, ironically if I had stayed on normal line I wouldnt have hit it.

I was always taught to avoid as many puddles as possible due to the above happening. I would have gone towards the kerb to avoid it.

Not helpful to the OP, just wondering if it's the OS wheel he's damaged due to avoiding a large vehicle?

It sucks anyway, good luck getting anything from the council smile

Well OP needs to report the Hole ASAP to the council/pothole website it will help other road users and get it fixed plus who knows he may or may not get it paid for.

Its happened to me twice luckily mine was fully paid and very quickly - still frustrating when it happens.

Could be a wishbone, one went on my mates M6 (the upper one from memory) and the wheel didn't sit centre in the arch, was about £80 I think
