My parents own a 53 reg, 1.6 Zafira.

It passed an MOT, 2 weeks ago, with no faults.

4 days ago, the ABS, and engine warning lights came on, and it went into limp mode, they went into there usual garage, but it showed no faults on the code reader, despite the warning lights still being on.

So today, I took it to my usual garage, again no faults were showing on the code reader.

Anyone have any ideas?

My mechanic said he would offer £350 for it, to be honest, I was tempted to tell them to take it, as it has cost them £500 in parts in the last year.

My advice would be get rid. My parents had one, lights came on, turbo was replaced amongst other things, problem was never really sorted, they would have been better off selling it with the engine warning lights on.

Take it to a garage with a better code reader, or may be even the dealer. All code readers are not the same.

Are they not?

Wasn't aware of that.

If it uses the same ABS unit as the vectra it will be this at fault check to see if it has Kelsey Hayes on it. I have changed quite a few, easy to do and you can bleed them from the pump, just crack off each union in turn until all the air is out.

A friend of ours bought a very similar (same?!?) one (against my advice) and it became an absolute money pit.

They eventually sold it for next to nothing to one of the various garages that recovered them during the time that they owned it.

Get rid. horrible cars.

No traction control that I'm aware of.

Just spoke to my parents.

Looks like I'm asking my mechanic, or listing it on the bay if he changes his mind.

They are fed up of throwing money at it.

Thanks for the advice, just one more question.

The tax runs out at the end of this month, so need to declare it sorn.

Can they continue to insure it? I was told there is a problem with having a car insured, and sorned at the same time?

So horrible, that 4 years of ownership of our 03 reg 1.6 petrol version, have shown no faults whatsoever. Starts everytime, passed all it's tests so far.

Yeah, horrible.

They are horrible, with silly low gearing which means crap mpg at anything other than round town and b roads, they are spacious and have clever seats but other than that have no redeeming features whatsoever.

I bought one for the missus, it was plagued with engine and electrical faults, I couldn't get rid of it fast enough when some fool offered me a swap for a golf.

It is good that yours has been reliable. My experience of them hasn't been great and, other than 7 seats in a fairly short vehicle, there's little to say about them.

Went this morning to get some pictures for a sales advert, and the bloody thing ran normally, and no warning lights.

I hate Vauxhalls.

It's the brake pedal switch. Next time the light comes on reach up behind the pedal and twist the switch, it will click a bit and then you'll be back in business.

Can't speak for "older" Zafira's but I have just bought a brand new one (made by Opel) and am VERY pleased with it. I plan to keep it a long time, so with Vauxall's lifetime warranty (100,000 miles), with my anticipated mileage it should be good for 10/12 years (other than general consumables, tyres etc).

Paid just over 10k (with Vauxhall incentives)..a LOT of car for the money....not MUCH dearer than a new Kia Picanto..(7 year Warranty).

Sorry to hear of the OP's problem.......frown
