A visitor to my garden last night gave me a chance to try out the macro mode on my Canon ixus500...

I'm reasonably pleased with the detail it picked up - don't scroll down if you don't like frogs

This is a slightly reduced size - full size is here

Excellent! The eye is razor sharp which is the golden rule for all animal pictures. Nice one.

I didn't know the eye rule - but it makes perfect sense - there were two others that didn't come out as well (see below).

Frog wasn't bothered at all - until I tried to take one from behind and then he hopped it!

They were hand held - haven't got a tripod yet...

I didnt know about the eye thing but it makes a good picture.

Those other 2 arent as good though. The mouth looks out of focus.

Edited: Only just seen you weren't using an SLR, in which case, Well done!

Oops sorry - that'll be me working in such a small browser trying to hide the fact that I'm looking at pistonheads when I should be working!

OK everyone, cordon this area off. Stand back, please. It's for your own protection. There'll be a Podie around in a minute....

I'm surprised he didn't already pick up on the phrase "nocturnal visitor"!
