Advice Needed - Shimano Ultegra Di2…..snapped :-(

Morning all - bit icy out there this morning as I found out 5 miles into a 30 mile ride. Going from a cycle path to road, some black ice took my front wheel away and i went down on my right hand side. Was only going around 5mph so nothing too major injury wise (apart from pride!!) BUT on getting up the bike had usual scraps to the gears BUT the bolt attaching it to the frame has completely snapped!!
Therefore was unusable and my friend had to ride home, grab a car and come and pick me and the bike up!! I am gutted as its my new Project One with only 350 miles on it and for such a small accident for this to happen is gutting.
My question / request for advice is: Surely these components must be stronger to withstand these light impacts and not snap in half? Has anyone else had this unfortunate accident happen to them where the bracket has snapped? It has left my Ultegra scratched to hell and i am thinking that I chase Shimano to replace the lot if it is down to poor material in the bracket. I know though that the scratches would of been there in some form even if it didn't snap as i did slip over.
Just looking for some advice / shared experiences……hoping my local bike shop can get it fixed tomorrow as I want to do a few final rides before year end and before i go back to work on the 6th!!

I can't speak about the strength of those components as I don't have them on my bike, I will also say really sorry to here about the bad luck.
I will also say that I think that last word may have everything to do with it. I came off my bike a month or so ago in a bend hitting mud and hit the deck hard. Lucky for me my right pedal took the majority of the impact and also my knee. The rest of the bike was absolutely fine. I have also though on other occasions just knocked my bike over in my flat and something has broken.
Good luck to if you can get them to replace it though.

Just looked at my Di2 mech and I think we need a photo. Sounds more like you have snapped the 'sacrificial' dropout, which protects you destroying the frame , as the rear mech looks quite solid in the pivot.They are designed to break first and you should always carry a spare on you, just in case. Di2 is just like any other mech and will withstand a certain amount of abuse. To be honest, I am not even contemplating my road bike with the road conditions as they are, so just about to head out on the mountain bike.
As Justin says, it sounds like you've just snapped the bolt or mech hanger, both are design to be sacrificial in the event of an accident to stop your frame taking the impact of a fall. New mech hangers are easy to find and most di2 stockists should have spare bolts. You'll just have to take the scratches as wear and tear unfortunately...

Thank you Lou and to all of you on here - was just surprised but makes sense to snap a £20 bolt and not a £3k frame!!! I think i am in that some of "first scratch on new toy" place and just annoyed i can't get it fixed until tomorrow morning when my local Trek guys open……..I haven't even got my new mountain bike yet and my single speed is under ground at the office in London!!! Arrgghhhhh….. I'm bike less hahaTyped earlier, but looks like its already been said -

Your not the first with a new bike to have that panic, and your not the last (used to get it a lot working in bike shops).
What you need to do now, is identify which one you need, and buy 2. Two, because one gets fitted to your bike, and the other one goes in your toolpack.

My bad, just looked like a cable coming out of the mech in the first shot..? It appears it's a spoke though. They've really trimmed the battery down from the uktegra di2 I've got that has a huge battery on the back.

A guy I ride with broke his Di2 Ultegra rear mech when we were out a couple of months back. Didn't realise until he got home after he had a small off at a junction. LBS we're very helpful and supplied and fitted the new rear mech with a substantial discount.

Now to touch up the scrapes on a rear mech. Go to the ladies make up department of Boots , walk in with your bike and check the nail varnishes out and match the colour, I kid you not !! !! Lucky it was the dropout, but as said get 2. Keep one to never ever use it, but that's the way it works. My MTB ride was just as interesting. Link roads between bridleways, 2 cars in ditches, sheet ice. I almost lost it on one road, off the brakes and rolled straight into the grass verge. All people in cars OK, but I think it caught a few out around Newbury today.
