Probably old news on here, but new to me.. 
Just found this site ( http://www.titanic.co.uk/GT3/GT32e.htm ) which gives an accurate (?) number of the MK1 996 gt3 UK cars, colour, Comfort or CS etc.
106 cars. Only 28 MK1 ClubSports! As far as cars+investments go - that's got to be tipped as a good gamble surely??

Can get more pics if you need them Mike. CS cage very different to Tequipment one, the latter bolting in at 4 points and mainly providing somewhere to mount harnesses too. I remember Jackwood doing a thread on here about the fitting of his Tequipment one.The CS one bolts through the floor hence the CS shell has strengthening plates at the relevant points etc.

Yes, completely different.
CS cars have plates mounted into the floor pan to bolt the cage to. You can also add the front section to the true CS version. It is a Motorsport spec part.
The Tequipment one bolts to the rear seatbelt mounting points that are not used in 996 GT3's (no rear seats, of course).

Exactly. The rear spars run down to the strut tops, B pillar bars down to the floor behind the seats and then there's the bolt-in front section of which the bars run down the A pillars to the floor.
Front section for track use only, incase you roll. On the road you won't be wearing a helmet or the harnesses and will crack your skull on the roof bar. Plus the drivers side A post bar gets in the way of the headlight switch a bit.

BMW announced just 400 UK CSL's would be produced (in both colours) - more like 550 people left deposits so they decided to fulfil the demand - it turned out many were speculators and with the actual market of people wanting to own one effectively over-supplied they basically fell out of bed value-wise and dealers had unsold cars for up to a year and were discounting like mad to entice buyers.
I was sourcing one for a friend in summer 2004, a circa £60k list car could be bought for under £50k and registered later on a 54 plate but in the end he bought a July registered c1000 mile car for even less that he could get straight in which for £3000 less was worth doing.
I don't know how many were black but I'd guess around 50-60?
Compare the above to the market for new 996 GT3 RS's which were launched at the same time. Porsche did a much better job at retaining the desirability & value.

nothing ever came close
borrowed a new 991 for a couple of days recently and was bored - so lifeless in comparison - my Panamera does a better job IMHO
