Could you / would you park an E92 M3 in the street in London
Discussion
As above.
I live in SW London. My wife's E92 335d lived outside the house for 2 years before it was stolen. This was about 2 months before BMW introduced the security system software update.
Incidentally, she refused to buy another BMW given the way BMW handled the whole situation!
Anyway, I rather like the look of the E92 M3 - not sure if the software updates have solved the security issues, or if basically this is just not something you would park in the street if you wanted to keep it.
I live in a pretty decent area, but in the end, it is London.
Interested in any thoughts...

I'm assuming putting a physical locking device on the steering wheel is not being considered by you as a viable provider of piece of mind.....
I guess my decision would hinge on whether my insurer would pay out should the car ever be stolen without the keys. You could do worse than ask them 'in theory' whether they'd pay out for a car stolen using a known weakness.
A car like an M3 will attract attention from thieves. You should be happy in your own mind that should the worst happen, you're covered. If not, why buy something that's just going to make you worry?

There's a 12 plate M3 in my girlfriend's street. Nice street, 90% in a nice neighbourhood but the south side of the street is a bit skanky and runs into a rough neighbourhood, which I nickname "Gotham City."
He has a dislok. Car's survived at least the 18 months I've known the girlfriend.
If you want a M3, take extra security precautions but don't miss out. I've driven one, they are awesome.

E61 M5 stolen from outside my house - live in a very nice part of town. Neighbour's Scooby Do also nicked from outside his house, yet Rangie Sport left untouched. My other neighbour's 911 GTS Cabriolet has never been touched... Basically luck of the draw... Btw, my M5 did have the security update - obviously did not work

Personally, I don't see how the experiences/opinions of others is going to help you make a qualified decision in this particular instance - unless they happen to neighbours. What might help is some actual data, directly linked to your location. Take a look at: http://www.ukcrimestats.com. You can put in your postcode and see all the types of crime that have occurred near to your location.
Hope that helps.

I have a 13 plate E92 M3 which I park on a SW London street with a Dislock. If I had a garage it would be in it but what can you do. It worried me at first but after you park it for a while the worry decreases. I'm now at the point where it is what it is, if someone successfully takes it then that's life. It's been said before but if you worry to much about these things it takes all the joy out of it. My view anyway :-)
I would definitely park an M3 in the street. I live in a fairly historically risky east London postcode. I would debadge if you are worried. Crime can happen anywhere, and criminals go to wealthier areas surely...
That said my 360 spider is garaged as it would attract too much attention (even though it's not a massively expensive car), and it's too delicate to be left out.
My M135i on order will be on the street. I've never had any issues in the past personally.

In a similar position to you.
Worried like hell that some scum thinks they can take my car that I worked my b
ks off for.
I have gone over board in my security measures
8ft tall cast iron gate
Telescopic security bollard
Tracker
Camera
Garden lighting
Am also planning on a new alarm system too from www.securemycar.co.uk sometime soon.

Out of the 3 friends who have an E92 M3, 2 of them have had them stolen (small sample size I know). M3's and X5's are the favoured targets for thieves unfortunately.
I wouldn't let it bother you though, as long as your insurance covers it then just treat it as an excuse to change to another car!

as BMW say themselves
its only a car.
I live in london, and have an e92 M3.
round here an m3 is not a special car - lots of Porsches, Astons, Ferraris, Lamborghinis on the street, so it doesn't worry me much.
Exactly. Walk through some London streets and you'll find all sorts of high value cars parked without too much issue.its only a car.

Of course it's better to have a garage, but when it's a choice between owning these cars or not I know which I'd choose.... renting a garage in my area is £150/month so that's £1800 a year to spend on any potential damage if you look at it that way.
Unless I lived in a bad area, don't think parking a car on a street would concern me, if theives really want a car, they'll do whatever they can do steal/attempt to steal it regardless
I've left plenty of car's that look out of place compared to the location I'm in (bright yellow R34 GTR as an example, see profile) in parts of Coventry around the Uni like student hall areas etc and not worried much about it.
