Hi folks,

My bonnet catch has decided it doesn't want to hold the bonnet any more frown

Seems the release catch isn't springing back out thus stopping the catch from locating. Does anybody know what car the catch came from?

Also, the pin on the bonnet is bare metal, I seem to remember seeing a few owners with some sort of tubing over it. Is it needed and does it help?

Have no idea of where the catch was sourced.

I would give it a really good de-grease - using toothbrush, then use some engine oil to lubricate it.
The usual 'service' option is to coat it in spray grease, which, IMO just goes hard - hence my advice to really clean the mechanism.

I reckon the 'SLEEVE' is an anti-rattle device.

The 'tubing' on mine is just some electrical tape wound around it biggrin I was having loads of problems with my catch but it was mainly because I couldn't get it to sit high enough and stay there, no idea what they are off of sorry frown

My wife's advice is "if it won't slip in easily, try some lubrication".

But surely the TVR owners version should be "Grit your teeth, I'm coming in dry..."?

(...or sideways...)

Sideways??!! eek That's gonna sting a bit biggrin

I wonder if TVR spent all their R&D money on designing their own bonnet catch, can't seem to find any info anywhere confused

What about the release cord, what is that from?

Back on topic, you guys have had too much Christmas pudding!

Make sure the handle is pushed back after pulling it.

Lube catch as above.

Ensure the pin isn't catching just on the end as this will pop out as the bonnet moves around at speed.
If so, back out the catch with a couple of washers from behind to bring it forwards.

Blimey, you can read a lot of innuendoes into the above smile

Thanks Peter, very useful. The handle doesn't want to go back in, even when pushed. The cord it self has a slight split in it where it meets the catch.

I will try living everything and having a wiggle around when I can biggrin

Is that the release cord, catch or both?

MIne used to pop open at 135 mph.....which certainly livened up proceedings a tad. Adjusted now, and the bonnet tightened down a bit.

Don't usually like to 'bump' threads but I'm kinda desperate frown

Does anybody have an idea on where the bonnet release cable came from?

I think that my cable has just got a little clamp on the end of it, I'm guessing that it has just been replaced by a bike brake cable cut to the right length.

The "sleeve" is just a piece of standard clear overflow pipe used on radiators.
