Nearly had a long walk

Started off great, really in the mood for a blast and sun was shining.

First big climb chain snagged between crank and frame and managed to kink the chain. Broke it and took link out.

Less than a mile later snapped on new link and damaged next, never mind patch up and carry on.

Going well and then kaboom, mullered chain, nuts to cross bar hit and booted and bent front deraileur.

Patched up again but down to 4 gears, just managed to crawl home 7ish miles pushing up hills.

3hrs to do 20 miles snd £100 on parts :-(

Sympathies. I heard a lot of clicketty clack noises on my towpath run on Friday. It was the horrible gritty muck in the chain. No idea how much damage or wear 10 miles of that st has done to my drivetrain. Just before we returned on the road we all dunked our bikes in the canal to wash it all off. That did the trick but I'll be giving it all a close inspection before riding it again or I'll be fearing the chain snapping during the ride.

Seven punctures & a four mile walk home on Christmas eve. I feel your pain.

This sounds like my ride yesterday.

First off front brake stuck before I even left the house. Had to live with it and pull one pad off the rim after each use!

Second, chain kept jumping off when out of the saddle. There goes the hill bashing!

Friend then gets puncture on tubs (why was he out on tubs in December!), the remainder carry on and hit loads of black ice, falling off twice.

Should have stayed in bed.

Also, first climb today & a rubbing noise turned out to be the tyre jumped the rim. That one was my fault.

I had a great ride Saturday, bit of a bimble down the Bath > Bristol route and had someone latch onto me about 4 miles from the end of the path. Took our turns in the wind and absolutely hammered it, great fun!

There's a lot to be said for the old 8spd stuff, me and a couple of mates race cyclocross with 8spd, and non of us has broken a chain yet.
