Door & window (passenger side) NOT WORKING?
Discussion
Hello All
Sorry I did post this earlier but i deleted it as it was not a well composed message, so here goes again:
I own a MK1 Tuscan. Today i washed it in the hand car wash, and afterwards the passenger side door and window would not work. The window will not work from the button, nor does it open slightly when the door is supposed to open. The door opener will not respond from outside or inside either. When driving along the warning message shows "door open". I have taken it straight home and put it away in the garage as i was hoping it may just dry out for tomorrow?
Does anyone know what could cause both faults to occur at the same time?
Thanks in advance,
Andy

Given it happened after it had just been washed it would suggest a bit of dampness in the electrics, possibly a multiplug in the door or similar; that said it's a TVR so you can never be sure.
If it doesn't clear over the next 48hrs the door card is very easily removed, would be worth a nosey in there first...

OK, as Richard advises, it is dampness in the electrics. If it doesn't clear over the next 48hrs the door card is very easily removed, would be worth a nosey in there first...

First place to look is the microswitch on the door lock. Remove stainless cover (3 off self tappers) and switch visible below. It has a 'blade' that actuates the v.small button of the switch. Ensure blade is being pushed by lock mechanism - tweak with long-nose pliers if necessary. Spray switch body and button with water dispersant/WD-40. Also, lift off trim panel where seat belt goes through, and trace wiring from microswitch to a multi-pin connector and spray connector too.
I'd almost bet my car this is the culprit....particularly when you've got "DOOR OPEN" warning on the lcd display. (The microswitch signals ecu that the door is shut)
Other places to check, if still playing up is the small pcb on top of the window lift motor. They are notorious for getting damp and b***erring up the window 'DROP' command on pressing door release. A good spray with WD40 usually sorts. You'll need to remove door card as above to get to this though.

Hello,
Right. Not good news. Checked the micro-switch and blade on the lock - all working fine. When i shut the door and tried the button under the wing-mirror a groaning noise started from the boot? I did hear this noise before when the initial problem occurred after the wash on Sunday. Opened the boot and in the cavity of the rear end (a place you cannot get to or see, but can just about get 1 hand into via a round rubber lid being removed) there is a small box that is making this noise, about the size of a matchbox at a guess? Now in addition to: no window operation, door operation on passenger side, the boot open button is not working, and the boot lock is stuck in the open position and will not keep the boot lid down?
Again, any help would be gratefully received?
Is there any PH Tuscan owners that are maybe a bit more savvy local to SE Kent that would be willing to help? I can drive the car no problem to wherever? In return i can offer my services. I am a property developer and can help with: plumbing, heating, electrics, telephone, aerial/satellite. Window and sash restoration, and general restorations?
Kind regards,
Andy.

HI.
Thanks for MPETT, its a very kind offer, but i can see this being a real nightmare over skype as there could be so many avenues to go down. I do not have power in my garage. After tinkering around with it after talking with Dan At Taylor TVR, i have now managed to stop the drivers side door & window from working also!! Jeez, all i can do now is laugh as i will go mad otherwise. For those interested I will keep you posted as i am taking the car to Dan at Taylor TVR Monday, maybe if others experience any similar issues i could help (once i know what the issue is).
Cheers

Right,
All sorted now. Water had been sprayed into the boot open button (even though I clearly stated not to spray there), this had damaged the solenoid for the boot open operation, but also caused problems with the passengers side window ECU, namely shorting out 2 of the joints on the unit. The electrics to the boot route from the passenger door location. Solenoid changed, window ECU fixed and programmed all is well again and working tickety boo! Went out for a nice long blast yesterday (dry day)and loved it.
