I've started using my turbo trainer more recently and have bought a couple of sufferfest videos, revolver and fight club. I'm really impressed and a'm enjoying using them but I have no idea how best to use them with my turbo.

I have 10 resistance levels on my trainer. Do most people change the resistance during a session? Should I use the bike's gears? I'm currently having to guess when the video tells me to ride at 4/10ths or 8/10ths etc. but I have a cadence senser.

What do you guys do?

If you're using a cadence and speed sensor like the Garmin one and if your turbo is supported, try linking it up with Trainerroad.
It gives you a calculated power output and tells you what power you should be producing for each stage of the video instead of guessing at how hard 4/10 or 7/10 should be.

I've only done a couple of Sufferfest videos with Trainerroad but it made a hell of a difference for me.

I don't have level resistance but I think the harder I pedal the more resistance I get! But I just change gear as normal if I want more without increasing cadence.

Thanks, so effectively it works out my power output based on cadence and speed? I like that idea. Now, which cadence and speed sensor to get! :/

Thanks now makes absolute sense, I just select a level on the turbo that I'm happy with and then ride as normal.

I'm finding Trainerroad a really good tool to get the best out of my turbo trainer. I bought the Garmin GSC 10, which was recommended in the Trainerroad support FAQ.
