Why am I asking this on a car? 8 motorists were killed, 350 were injured and 11,500 cars were damaged bumping into the fkers. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/news/9714803/S...

Solution? Simples according to the man on Countryfile tonight. Reintroduce the wolf and lynx. Stats suggest more lives and money will be saved by a big predator returning to countryside where they previously lived than damage they are likely to cost (attacks on livestock and people).

They belong here. They're only gone because we shot or poisoned them all so why not have them back?

The Daily Mail was doing it's usual scaremongering recently declaring that wolves had been spotted living wild in Holland and it was only a matter of time before they arrived here ! Presumably going to swim the channel or sneak through the tunnel on false papers...

Well the only reason they are no longer here is due to us, NOT nature. So re-introduce them by all means.

This has been talked about for a while now.

It's a sensible idea, but, I doubt it will happen, as most sensible ideas never do.

Got to love the Daily Mail, it never fails to cheer me up just because it always writes such total rubbish without seeming to take a moment to actually think about what they are saying.

Due to the amount of dead deer on the roads around my part of the world at this time of year I think returning the Wolf would be a great idea, not sure the farmers or my pussy cats would agree though!

There are good reasons for reintroducing the various animals that we've wiped out over the years, but I'm not sure reducing RTAs is really one of them. hehe

Not trolling, just a curious townie...

Are wolves not dangerous? Is it only a matter of time before they wander in from the wilds to the edge of populated areas and start snacking on domestic dogs / cats, or a pack of the large bds rounds up a couple of young children playing in the woodlands?

I don't mean to come across all Daily Wail and 'think of the children', but the reason I like the UK is that we can generally ramble around at our leisure without being stung/mauled/bitten to death!

What do we do if the wolf population gets too big? Introduce prides of lions dotted around our Isles?

We need wolves so that we can scare children into behaving themselves.

How many are we planning to introduce? I've been told that all the Guinea Pigs in Britain are descended from only six original imports and as a result they are all basically mental. The prospect of repeating this experiment with wolves in the wild is somewhat more worrying.

Bears would work too.

I can't see farmers being keen on the reintroduction of wolves.

Wolves have returned to Sweden. Unfortunately all the wolves descend from one pair who had walked in from Russia as a result of this the population is turning into a genetic car-crash. The solution is to slot particularly poorly looking individuals (prob easily identifiable as the ones with two heads smile ) and introduce some fresh blood from other parts of Europe. Makes sense? humane? wolves best interests at heart? You'd think so but there are plenty of hand-wringers kicking up hell about it and doing all they can to stop the process.

Joking aside I think it is stupid idea.

Right or wrong WE made ourselves the top of the food chain here. It has taken 1000 years of systematically destroying every species that could ever threaten us.
1000 years of small incremental adjustments to the eco-system.
Look at the explosion in the fox population since the hunting ban.
The unintended consequences do not bear (no pun intended) thinking about. One of the nicest things about this country is that nature cannot kill you unless it is very cold and you are lost. Let's keep it that way.

If they re-introduce them better belive that certain people will make a point of shooting every one they see. Not advocating it but being honest. When the tight financial rope that live stock farmers walk is threatened then I cannot see them taking this lying down. Foxes are bad, but one individual takes small or weak animals. Wolves are adept pack hunters and will take down cows and sheep. Why F**k about with fast, flighty, savvy deer when tasty beef is penned in to fields and cannot jump over the fence.

Imagine the outcry when Bronze DofE get attacked!
