Like a load of rattly old st I'd imagine. Why on earth would you want a diesel engine in an MR2?

Maybe they had an MR2 with no engine, and an engine with no car.....

Also it's in Cork - coming from someone who lives north of the border, the country boys are obsessed with their Diesels, plenty of tuned VAG TDi stuff running round billowing thick black smoke on boost. "Sucking' diesel" is a popular phrase round these parts

It's probably not the most suitable engine for the car but I'm sure it pulls well and would have more power / torque than the standard engine?

The 406 coupe hdi and the 330cd seem to work well enough in the real world - can't think of another mid-engined diesel though...
It's quality of noise rather than quantity - can't really see it sounding that sweet. Could end up with a long range sports car that you wouldn't want to drive a long way - unless the soundproofing's good. We used double-soundproofing when we put a diesel in our XR2 and that was quiet enough and was comfortable for 300 miles a day.
The extra weight of the diesel is negligible due to it's location in the MR2, ride should be good and low down power for the size and weight of the car should be excellent.
Don't suppose the owners on here somewhere and would like to shed some light ?

I put a D4D badge on the rear of my 8200rpm Toyota Celica.
The MOT garage took it off.
I guess it confused the full throttle emission check.

Sorry, that should be obvious from my post. Given the knowledge of the average PH poster I didn't think there was any need to clarify that.
I was simply referring to those as diesel coupes that work - full stop - I can't think of another mid-engined diesel other than the MR2 on offer though - so this could be a first... unless someone's already stuck one in an X1/9 ?!

The way Porsche are going with diesels there could be a diesel Boxster/Cayman. Imagine that. (sticking with the mid engined thing)

Is that a conversion or one of the experiments produced by Vauxhall ?
