Hi all, had my 500 Chim at my parents garage for about 6 weeks, went to start her up yesterday for a quick run and the temp gauge seemed to shoot up on idle, normally won't ever go above 90 even in traffic and extreme heat, was showing almost 100, didn't have time to stick around but think it's gauge related and not actual heat, the fans did cut in at least once, any ideas what It could be?

Did you actually lift the bonnet and make sure that both fans had cut in? The wiring connectors physically situated below the fans are notorious for being affected by damp and corrosion, causing one or other fan not to cut in.

It could be the sender breaking down or a chaffed wire (if you disconnect the wire from the sender and still get a reading)

I will pop out in a bit and measure the resistance of the sender to earth for a comparison.

Or, it could be the gauge.

Sender spade coonection 4650ohms to inlet manifold

Crimp to inlet manifold reading fluctuates between 62-67ohms

Both at 8 degrees

If you pull the spade connector off and short it to ground (-ve) the gauge shoots up to maximum - so m bet is a dodgy connection of some sort.

So it is a faulty sender then.

Shorting the wire to earth should lead the guage to read maximum.
