Hi all,

Hoping for a little advice. My 95 chim is throwing a wobble.
I've just completed a service which cured some misfiring issues, and now the car keeps dying out.
She runs lovely when running, but randomly try's to cut out as if no fuel is feeding in... I.e a massive head hurling judder.... If it happens at a junction she just dies.... Obviously no momentum to keep her going.... Starts again fine

I notice the fuel pump is just strapped to the chassis amongst the rain and water... Could this be bad connections, or knackered fuel pump? And is this issue the cause of occasional immobiliser kicking in?

Any help would be great, or is the answer in the bible somewhere which I just got for Xmas from the lovely misses.

Many thanks

Someone with a lot more experience than me will be along anytime now and probably say its something different but.... sounds more like the coil/Dizzy cap/rotor area to me. I had similar incl. miss fire, replaced all of the above and suddenly all was good in the world.

Probably not the pump although it's worth checking the connections are clean and tight.

TBH, it could be a number of things.

Try as suggested, could be an air leak, has anything been touched recently?

I'm with a distributor, rotor arm, plug leads issue on the one....

If these are the areas, that you've recently been working on, my guess is that this is where the problem lies..... It's very easy to not clip a plug lead fully home, or unknowingly fit a crappy rotor arm....

In fact if you did fit a new rotor arm......the first thing I'd do, is remove it and put the old one back....

As for fuel pumps, they're generally very reliable, problems usually arise from relays and electrics than the pump itself..

Change the rotor, check the leads, and go for a drive....that's what I'd be doing...smile

Advice received, thanks all.... Ill try rotor arm etc...

Sounds weird though, would a car lose all power due to a ignition fault, or more just misfire/splutter?

Thanks

Yes. Sounds like electric malfunction, coil. Ignition module. Check for shorting ignition lead sparks under the bonnet on idle and some revs in the dark. And safely jiggle the leads with eg a wooden ruler? A short spark will show up. Check all leads are pushed home on plugs, also the dizzy to coil king lead.

Turn the engine on in the dark ,you will probably see sparks going where they should not be !

excellent all of you, so hopeful!

I've just changed back to the original rotor arm (considerable chunkier than the new one from clever trev), and put the old cap on.... Did an exact repeat of the journey this morning and not a glimmer of issues ... Beautiful!

Tomorrow will tell after a drive in yet another downpour.

Won't be happy if the new parts from clever trev are knaff... The premium price for tvr parts should surely be better quality.

Time will tell,

Thanks again to those who replied.
