I live in Birmingham, and have had this happen to me now....

You approach a roundabout, you look right and see a car on the roundabout, but his indicating to go left (exit that your on), but instead of taking the exit, they keep going round the roundabout, still indicating left...
In the meantime, you approach the roundabout, see that his taking the road your leaving and set off on to the roundabout only to have an accident, and it being your fault!...
The car was obviously filled with four/five Asians (Asian myself their an embarrassent) looking to have someone hit into them, claiming whiplash / writeoff their car etc.....

You've been warned!

That's where you went wrong. You saw that he was indicating to take an exit, not that he was taking the exit. Don't believe every indication that you see.

You will get blamed for this one because you pulled out into his path; his indication is not a viable excuse for you. He may well deny that he was indicating.

Call me racist but any claim that involves a car filled with Asian Youths should be dismissed straight away

Is this another idiotic Facebook "scam"?

rolleyes

If you drive into another car on a roundabout and they've got right of way it doesn't make a blind bit of difference if they have their indicator on or a big sign saying "I'm going to turn off here. Honest" in flashing neons, you are still at fault and it's up to you to make sure your exit is clear.

If in doubt wait.

It's the same as pulling out on someone at a t junction because they had their left hand indicator on, and you thought they were turning left into your road.

If in doubt wait.

Sorry but agree.

He is on major road - you a minor.

Treat everyone like an idiot and you will have less accidents but thanks for pointing out this little scenario.

There is absolutely nothing new in the incorrect use of an indicator on a roundabout, I would have thought that's been commonplace since the very invention of the roundabout.

Similar thing happened to my daughter - the scum indicated to turn left off a main road and then carried on when she started to pull out. OK so it is her fault, but if you see someone switch on their indicator and slow down it can goad you into pulling out.

something offensive about my suggestion that people should expect the unexpected on the roads?!

an indicator is an intention. Don't believe it until you see the action.

My driving instructor very clearly taught me that seeing someone indicating tells you one thing and one thing only.

Their indicators work.

It can indeed, but in itself it doesn't mean the other people are scum. confused

The worst that should ever happen from a wrong indication is a delay or an awkward moment, never an accident. That said, I've had more delays and awkward moments than I should have - especially on roundabouts - nobody seems to understand how they work and it makes me despair - are people really so stupid that they can't understand the Highway Code, or perhaps too lazy to even learn and remember it?

Probably because the majority of posters on here have missed his point!
No, you shouldn't assume that a signal guarantees intent but it is clear that in this instance the signal was intentionally misleading to goad people into having a collision!

I learnt very quickly, in fact before I passed my test, that indicators indicate fk all for some of the lovely people that share the roads with my good self...

It seems to me that of the 30 or say 40% of people that do indicate at all, most of them do it as they move, not before. I've driven with people who do that and their hand movement to indicate is synchronised with the hand movement to turn the wheel. A very high proportion of people are just thick basically.

on the continent they barely indicate at all. The rule here is once on the r'bout you have right of way and everyone can just wait until you turn off. Given propensity for high approach speeds it makes for an overall slow and inefficient system. I find it frustrating and miss the UK's (normal) predictability where people indicate. UK junctions are far more fluid.
However, OP - it's only ever an indication and never to be 100% relied upon.
