Hi everyone I've followed PH for a while but this is my first post...

Yesterday morning I was overtaken by a newish Mini Cooper on an uphill blind bend. If the oncoming Transit had been

about 10 seconds later there would've been a very big mess. Thing is though, the Mini was a driving school car!!

About 5 minutes later I saw the car again, middle aged bloke at the wheel, queueing to go into Morrison's car park so

I doubt it had been stolen (the thought had crossed my mind). Anyone seen worse? There must be 1000's!

Was it a "one man band" driving school or a chain ?

If a chain, phone them up to tell them the poor driving standards of their instructor.

Could you have spoken to said driver after he had parked at Morrisons ?

smile I trust you obeyed HC rule 168:

>>168

Being overtaken. If a driver is trying to overtake you, maintain a steady course and speed, slowing down if necessary to let the vehicle pass. Never obstruct drivers who wish to pass. Speeding up or driving unpredictably while someone is overtaking you is dangerous. Drop back to maintain a two-second gap if someone overtakes and pulls into the gap in front of you.<<

Everyday!!!!
Early morning, wet, dark coming into a left hand bend I had a near brush with an articulated lorry coming towards me, the wet tyre tracks showed the trailer was on my side of the road as he rounded the bend, had I left 2-3 secs earlier this morning, how knows, sometimes best not to think to much about it.

10 seconds is actually quite a long time, at 30mph you will travel around 450ft, not exactly close IMO you really need to find something of more concern to worry about.

It was a one man band. I would have had words with him but he was queueing in a right hand filter lane & I passed

him as I was going straight ahead. If I'd had more time I would've turned back...

You should expect better, but don't always get better.

ring him up and ask if he does Fleet driver training work, if he doesn't them suggest he gets some. If he does ask can he recommend someone else!

maybe though the car is owned by the female of the house.

1. I did say ABOUT 10 seconds - it could have been 7.803

2. Where did 30mph come from? Their closing speed was probably nearer 90mph.

3. The point is that the Mini driver couldn't possibly have known the Transit was even there.

4. I gave up worrying during the Falklands war!

Our airport taxi driver would sometimes sit on the middle lane (i.e. he was a middle lane hogger) of the M6 because the inside lane was slightly rutted from the lorries using it...I never had a problem with the road and I use it every day!

1. Fair point.
2. No one mentioned 30mph I just used that as an example.
3. Where do you mention that the Mini driver couldn't have known the Transit was there?
4. Apparently not.

The way I see it is that if your vehicle is liveried and displaying your number/email address, then you should be an exemplary driver.

Otherwise when you cut people like me up I'll call you with fake appointments and subscribe your email address to gay porn.

I thought that was sort of implied when he described it as an "uphill blind bend".

The very definition of a blind bend IMO is a bend that you cannot see around in order to determine if the road is clear.

I saw a driving school fiesta the other day being driver, as I thought by a learner, speed all over the place just general not goodness, I assumed that it was a leaner, and a newish one at that, only to pass and see it was the instructor!

Some might say its a placebo effect, seeing a learner car and assuming its being driven poorly, but I've often seen very well driven learner cars and assumed it was an instructor only to see a 17 year old in the drivers seat.

I accept that, but very often you can establish a clear line of sight from a slightly different road position, not trying to defend the Mini driver, just offering another consideration.

Why should a instructor be any better safer driver than any of us on a giving day?

He was problably in a rush.Slow down and let him go by better prevent a accident.

Er, I think I'd expect a driving instructor not to perform an overtake on a blind uphill bend in a manner inferred by the OP. "In a rush to queue into Morrisons" probably wouldn't cut it as an explanation for me.

All in all on any given day I would expect an instructor to be "better" than the merely historically instructed.

I had a police car next to me turn left (first exit) from the right-hand lane on a roundabout. Most of the traffic does go left from the left lane, but I could quite legitimately have be going straight over second exit, and ploughed into the side of it. Should've done really.

Are you for real? The fact that he is teaching the next generation how to drive etc etc.
