Where to transfer cherished plate? Glasgow.

Hi there, just wondered if anyone knows how to transfer a cherished no held on a retention certificate in the Glasgow area.
Is it as simple as going into a dvla office with the certificate and the cars V5?

Not anymore, the Glasgow DVLA office closed on the 13th Dec 2013. The office may still be open but not to the public.

As far as i know... the only way to do it now is to send off the certificate to swansea with relevant details filled in, along with V5 and MOT cert. Takes up to 3 weeks apparently, i'm waiting on one back as i type.

I found out the hard way, fighting my way through Glasgow city centre in the pissing rain on the 21st Dec to find the office shut!

No way it could stay open, I used it a few times, last time to register a bike I imported. Well informed, helpful staff. Pretty efficient as well. No chance the DVLA could let that continue......

If it's on a retention certificate you might be able to it at the post office now.? I know that they are doing alot more DVLA processing work now the DVLA offices have closed.

Its a 4 - 6 week wait on the DVLA in Swansea for plate tranfers.

I recently had mine done in 3 weeks, Dealer did all the donkey work for me.

No they still wont touch it at the PO, they are doing a bit more, but not a great deal to be honest

It needs to be done by Swansea now as all local offices are closed. The good news is the new system does seem to be fairly efficient and my most recent one was done in 8 days which, for the DVLA, is pretty impressive!

Depends what you mean, it happens to two stages.

1. MOT/Tax and plate authorisation
2. V5

Stage one should happen in a matter of days...however it's not always the case.

DVLA are useless, the system is dated and they are very unhelpful.

The automated messages state stage one can happen in 2-3 calendar days but when you call them after 10 days, they say..we would never do that..

Oh the list goes on...waiting on 3 to come back just now and not going to plan at all!
