Hey troops,
I've got 5k together and I'm looking for ideas on what to get. Needs to be quick and a decent boot as we are expecting a baby shortly. And don't think the ep3 type r is gonna cut it.

Many thanks

Any more guidance? RWD, FWD, estates ok, no estates, must be <8sec to 60, etc…?

Pretty sure it's considered not proper to put a baby in the boot.

Well avoid that… no boot space (as in shockingly bad)

BMW 330i estate
Saab 9-3 Aero Estate
Subaru Legacy R-Spec Tourer (AWD)

Don't underestimate how much small people take up in terms of luggage, but nor do you have to go overboard… but estates don't mean no fun...

That's looks sweet for the money...a whole lot of car with good mileage. Rear bumper looks like its had a respray and is a slight mismatch, so could be worth asking the history of that but this is a good shout.

Octavia Vrs saloon or estate seems to be a common suggestion for this requirement?

An AMG C43 is probably one of the smartest answers you'll get, but this Jag would give you a bit of that Ronnie and Reggie Kray factor... if you'd be interested in that. And the boot looks like it could swallow up the groceries... or a body, depending on how much you'd like to imitate the Kray twins.

Don't be so cruel! The reason the price on these dropped like a stone is that they cost an awful lot to maintain compared to the performance on offer. They do however sound great smile

The Mazda is a good shout though.

Wouldn't Sir be better buying something cheap to run, reliable and practical now a baby is on the way and forgetting performance?

5 door Golf GTI or ST.
Leaning into the back with a baby seat gets old very quickly.

Forester XT. I've got one for the dog and baby duties (ours arrive in six weeks) before it goes into the Impreza to be warbled to sleep.

This is a good un with lots of kit and without going over 270bhp the engine will go for another 100k with just regular servicing - the 2.5 is a peach of an engine too.

My 2.0 XT is performing beautifully as a family car and return plenty of grins of you want to modify them. They've got brilliant build quality, a huge boot, are superb fun to drive, will go anywhere, return 30mpg (yes they will!) and are cheap to service. The only downside is the high tax but the insurance is cheap so that'll even things out.
