I've got an X10; the X30 is an evolution of that. It's a handy piece of kit. The web-based interface is quite good, and an ideal way of backing up MP3's and ripping CD's.It's new and I can't find any reviews or tests online. Thanks.
It does much the same job as the Brennan JB7, but is much more user-friendly and flexible.

Cheers AdeTuono, I was considering an X10 last year but decided to get an asynchronous USB to spdif converter to improve my laptop instead. I know the X30 can't do much the X10 doesn't do already ; l don't need the the amplifier but the extra digital outputs and hdmi output appeal. It looks to have a very similar specifications to the Olives products and the X10 looks to be well thought out.It does much the same job as the Brennan JB7, but is much more user-friendly and flexible.

The amplifier is largely superfluous, unless you want a low-power standalone unit. The X10 is pretty versatile, and is ideal as an addition to an existing system, IMO. I'm sure the X30 will be just as good.WHF's opinion coming soon. http://www.whathifi.com/forum/hi-fi/cocktail-audio...

For what that's worth. It depends who's paying the most for the best review that particular month...

I lost faith in WHF reviews after reading positive comments about a product in one issue and then negative comments in another.
I've seen them manage to trip themselves up like this on several occasions.
And they do spout some absolute bulls
t sometimes (as do many magazines) and you dare not be critical of them on their forums...
And yes, I know many other mags are guilty of the same thing, which is why I stopped buying them a long time ago.

WHF do have a bit of a reputation but I sometimes read HFN and HFW; I'm interested to see what the reviewers say but I'm more interested in the measurements they publish. HFN ( Paul Miller ) publishes very comprehensive measurements using 'his own' software suite, Hi-Fi World have invested in a Rohde & Schwartz UPV audio analyser http://www.hi-fiworld.co.uk/index.php/internet-aud... which is arguably state of the art and they use Bruel & Kjaer 4133 Mics for their speaker measurements ££££. Hi-Fi Choice and Hi-Fi News do appear to try a little harder than the others with their subjective testing too; their 'blind' group tests are good imho.

I was a Hi-Fi World subscriber for about 18 months, but my interest waned when they reviewed USB cables and raved on about how they improved the sound, adding 'analogue warmth' etc.
At that point, I wrote to Noel Keywood expressing my sentiments regarding said reviews, and when he wrote back supporting their opinions I decided enough was enough.
I used to enjoy Hi-Fi Choice, but they went through a phase where just about every issue reviewed equipment costing well into four figures - way out of my reach!
I've heard of Hi-Fi News, but don't believe I've ever seen an issue on in any shop where I am.
In any case, I'm in the enviable position of being happy with my (largely home built) system as it stands right now.

Thanks for the link - good review. I saw, in the March edition, that Hi-Fi Choice were testing one in April. I'm going to hold fire before I get one because I want to be sure the firmware glitches are resolved first. Also, I'm only going to use the digital outputs and the quality/performance of these wasn't covered in the test.
