Yob Damages Merc. Owner Gets Done For Speeding....
Discussion
From yesterday's "Daily Express" (Mark Reynolds reports)
Businessman Leigh W is fuming
He received a letter from the CPS telling him that the drunken lout who vandalised his £20K Merc has been let off with a warning. In the same post - he opened a second letter... an NIP ... telling him that he was going to be prosecuted for driving past a speed camerea at 35mph in a 30 mph zone....
"I was so angry my blood began to boil
" says Mr W. or Warwickshire.
He was confronted by a gang as he drove home from work last month. One drunken yob who had just smashed in a shop window, approached his car, wiped his blood over the bonnet and then kicked in the driver's door - causing £700 worth of damage.
The frightened restaurateur drove home und the police said they had copped the attacker. Then because the yob (under aged drinker at 17) was "under age und diddums - first offence"
... charge was dropped und he gets a caution.
The motorist is now
as he feels he ist now "criminal" for driving 5mph above speed limit und the attack had really shaken him.
We are not told whether or not he tripped the scamera on way home after the attack.... that ist implied in the writing of this piece....though....
But .... hardly any wonder why we are so all so angry about the speed cam issue... even though the BiBs did their job.
Those twazaks in charge .....
need a brain transplant.......

Apologies everyone else, but those types in comments in that context really REALLY winds me up.
MORE than that even.
ahem. Calm down.........calm down.
Thankyou for the personal abuse Bryan. I would respond in kind but I dont ever feel it is needed nor wanted, either on or off forum.
On the other hand maybe you are so incredibly intelligent that you can sum up an entire persons life, skills and personality without even meeting them, which is a remote and unlikely possibility.
Much as I do not have to explain myself to you, especially after such a luddite response I will do you the pleasure.
If you look at the basic statistics between how many motorists are caught, subsequently fined and then processed - then compare that to the amount of criminals that are caught, subsequently fined and actually processed, you will find (unsurprisingly) that the motorist althought legally fighting the speeding ticket will ultimately get "done" even though sometimes the evidence is not all that.
However if you then take the equivalent non-motoring offenses you will find that the people are subsequently not done, not chased, or usually dont have to bother paying as they are not law abiding citizens.
Therefore as simple as the "speed kills" saying is, my counter is "no speeding = no crime"
If you wish to continue speculating on my self-pleasuring habits feel free, however I am sure yours are similar.
Regards,

Think I'd rather read "No, speeding is not a crime" - Ok , so you can elaborate a bit by adding as long as you do not endanger or harm any other party.

True but the point of my statement is that it is an infuriatingly simple and as innacurate as "speed kills"
If the government provides us with a reasonable argument the people will unite in a reasonable solution.
They are not doing that so neither are we hence this forum is so alive

I may have misread you ghost, though I'm still slightly confused.
As I said in my earlier post, if you meant it then I still stand by my comments.
If you didn't mean it, then it was still a daft thing to say in the context.
And we are all guilty of that from time to time.
I do have a girlfriend though, so my habits aren't the same as yours. :-)

I too initially thought you meant to advise that speeding didn't technically count as a crime. But it would appear that you are trying to infer that not speeding ensures that you aren't charged with committing a "crime".
Well, technically, you are correct. As long as you have a tachograph -
Evening Chronicle comment
System failure
If there's a glitch in the speed camera system it needs fixing straight away.
It is unacceptable that two council van drivers, travelling well below the speed limit, have been sent fixed penalty notices for offences they have not committed. In these cases the drivers' tachometers clearly prove they were not guilty of the offences. But what about the average motorist who has no such device in his vehicle?
Speed camera officials may have been quick to apologise for the error, but they have been too slow off the mark in explaining how they plan to ensure it doesn't happen again.

And if you missed it -
What about the M4 not speeding news story?! Where have all the smiley thingies gone?! :-(

I feel sorry for the guy who sees one side of system working perfectly well and one side failing as usual. I have no problem with being fined for speeding offences and believe that if you make the choice to drive quickly you should expect to get caught. That said, if I am the victim of crime I would expect that the perpetrator of this to also expect to get caught. This is clearly not the case, and made especially frustrating by the fact that first offences seem to get by with a warning, whereas my first speeding offence produced 3 points and a £60 fine.

er, wasn't he being ironic about the way different types of lawbreaking are portrayed by the authorities? And to be fair, even if he wasn't, then calling him that isn't really a clinical dissection of his argument, is it?
