looking at a 993 turbo 4 at the mo

Can anyone help me out with what I should be looking for on a car with 84,000 miles on it ?

It has good history - is this kind of mileage a problem ?

What should I be paying for such a car (RHD,96P,FPSH) ?

Anyone know of any for sale ?

Are all 993 turbos twin turbos ?

Thanks for any help - I'm a bit new to all this 911 stuff and still getting to grips with all the models ?

Pls help me buy a good one !

About £38-44k, depending on condition. If it's been serviced by independent specialists then better than OPC, however for first 3 years it'll probably have OPC stamps in the book.

All 993 Turbo 4's are twin or bi-turbo.

Turbos may need doing soon. Not cheap!

84k mileage is very high for the tt... this will be difficult for thr trade to shift and you to sell on.

All Turbos are twin turbos.

Don't pay any more than 40k for a RHD one, 33k for a LHD one.

Cheers

The main things to check at that mileage are:

1) When was the clutch replaced last

2) What condition are the shocks in

3) Have the turbos been changed or reconditioned (this will depend on how they have been warmed up and down over their life) I think the turbos are good for 100K miles plus?

More buying info can be found at www.993tt.com and www.p-car.com

84k is no problem as long as the history is there.

Price wise - dealer or private? Dealer early forties, and private late thirties to forty? If private make sure you get an inspection by a reputable independent dealer, if anything major is a miss it can be very costly.

All 993 TT are twin turbo and 4WD.

One for sale www.autobahn.co.uk, and www.strasse.co.uk usually have one but don't at the mo.

There are usually a few in the classifieds of Porsche and 911 world, and GT Purely Porsche magazines too.

They are great cars.

Hope that helps

Martyn.

Thanks - all this is really helpful

It's the autobahn 993 tht i'm looking at

Just thinking is the 993 turbo right for me or would i be better with 996 GT3 mk1 ?

This car is not a daily drive just weekend and social use plus a couple of trackdays per year. I do want to put my cash into something that doesn't deprieciate too badly and thats why the 993 stands out, what type of money can a 996 gt3 be had for and how would the performance compare ?

Thanks

I think I'd be right in saying that a gt3 and a turbo 4 are different beasts.

Price wise, I paid 40K for my 36K mile example 14 months ago, and nothing has really changed as far as I can see on the pricing, so look at paying £35K for one with 80K miles.

If the turbo's have gone then a new set including a relpacement ECU & oil cooler can be obtained from Carnewal for £3500 all inclusive. This will take the car to 450BHP as per turbo S spec.

Shocks: Well if you're looking at track days you'll probably want to replace them at some point anyway (I kow I keep thinking about it!). Cost is again around £1500

Best thing to do is get a copy of the service history and log book and give the service centres a ring and ask them what they know. Also the previous owner will be a good source of info.

Regarding clutches, you're looking at around £1000 so it's hardly worth turning down a good car because it needs a new clutch becasue you might end up buying a bad car with a new clutch!

Turbo 4 and GT3 ARE different beasts.

I'd choose the GT3 for your requirements. The 993tt isn't really suitable for trackwork out of the box, unlike the GT3 (brakes aside on the Mk1s). You can get an early LHD example for 40k-45k if you search hard enough.

Alternatively, consider the 993RS, which would be a far better choice than both of the above, from 40k plus LHD.

You could save cash with a 964RS, (27k upwards these days) but these are very raw for road use and less useable everyday than the 993RS, GT3 or 993tt.

Just to confuse you further, a Boxster S acquits itself on track well for well within your budget. Not a bad car at all, if you want wind in your hair and can live with the 'less hardcore' image.

Guys what is this worth?

Due to pressure from wife over third child I have a 993TT with 18k miles, which may become available...BUT a few catches....1. It has been a CAT D write-off (ie all left side panels replaced from side swipe)- I have had it removed from HPI register with a full sign off by Autoline ie there was only cosmetic damage, nothing wrong with chassis 2. For first five years of life, full service OPC history, then nothing until I have been getting it serviced at OPC (last 12 mnths). 3. I have uprgraded exhaust system - Techart.
The interior is immaculate, paintwork shines as has been stored in garage all its life (as you would expect with only 18k miles)

What is it worth???

As said the 993 and GT3 are chalk and cheese, the GT3 is raw and honed, the turbo 4 is comfortable, and relatively refined....though is probably too much of a compromise compared to a GT3.

So it comes down to the surgeon’s knife or the sledgehammer in the end.

Don't think there would be much performance difference between the two cars.

As Dom said the 993 and 964 RS option would give you the greatest Porsche 'hit' available in some people's opinion.

Best to drive all the lot and see what you think?

At that mileage, in addition to the points raised by PHers earlier in the thread, look at the exhaust area right up to header studs, and check the brake disks. Can't see anyone mentioning oil leaks so I will. Always several bargaining points on a higher miler.

Saw a nice LHD turbo 4 in Camtune yesterday as well as a RS and RHD GT2 for those with serious cash! All in black. Quite a slight lined up together.

If so someone pls point me in the right direction as this would ideal

Had a look at the autobahn car on sat - not totally blown away by it - nothing major wrong but i think the price is too strong for that mileage.

My guess is late forties, say 48k, with that mileage but without the Cat D, so early forties with. Probably 20% differential as Cat D hits cars in that market hard. So maybe 40k on the head as a private sale?
Maybe the traders will have tuppence to contribute... Rgds Dom

Surely even the low milage can't even be proved because of the gap in the history ?

Not doubting you just not an easy car to sell i would think

What did you pay for it ? use that as a starting point ?
