Random question.... Do you have a speed at which point it's top speed is quick? For me, probably around the 150+ mark, above 170 or so as you start getting into the really quick stuff.

Oh, and happy new year biggrin

I don't honestly see much point in over 120/130mph. But getting there quickly, that is another story...

A bit lower for me, I would argue that as most cars nowadays can top out around 120, anything above that is above average and starts getting quick.

155 being the standard limited speed for many manufacturers means I class anything designed to go higher is a bit special and therefore that's where super quick begins for me.

Anything designed to move past 200 is mental quick IMO

Don't forget at 140 you are travelling at twice the national speed limit, so in legal terms 140 is beyond just quick....

Anything that isn't electronically limited to 155mph.

That can be turned off in some cars.

For me, "quick" is the wrong word as regards top speed.

"Fast" is the word I would use.

Drag racing in a straight line = "fast"
Going rapidly around a lap = "quick"

I think I agree.

I tend to think of quick and fast differently.

Acceleration and handling being more important and making the car quicker.

Top speed making the car fast(er).

A bit pedantic perhaps.

Yup, been removed on my car, which will hit around 165mph or so.

I feel that 170 is the threshold for when I see something as quick.

So, say, an M5 isnt as it only has a top speed of 155MPH?

But it doesn't, it's artificially limited which can very easily be removed. The last 3, possibly 4 M5s could top 170.

Oh i know. Thats my point.

A cars "top speed" is pretty much irrelevant. My wifies Subaru WRX-S topped out at "only" 130mph or so, but was by far the quickest thing shes owned for a cross country sprint, yet pretty much all of her other cars have had a higher top speed but were nowhere near as fast day to day.

To me, quick (or quickly) is the rate at which a car reaches its top speed; it's acceleration rather than maximum.

Anything over 150 is a "fast" car, allegedly my 350Z is limited to 155, not sure how much faster it would go if unlimited, cant imagine its much faster than that, maybe 160/165 ?

Not that I am ever likely to try, I did try a top speed run once and was like a mard dog on bonfire night every time the letterbox rattled when the post arrived.

Top speed is not how I'd define 'quick' either, but acceleration is. 0-60 in under 5s and 0-100 in under 12s is pretty quick IMO. 0-60 in under 4s and 0-100 under 10s is very quick!

With respect to those saying it's not about top speed.... My question was specifically related to top speed hehe
