I quite like these....

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Does anybody know what bulbs are required for a Chim dash off the top,of there heads?

(I'll probably come to my senses before I actually order any bulbs though...... smile)

Yep there cool but I like the dim lit look.

You know like an old fighter plane, come on most of us have to tap the dash to get the fkers to flicker on.

Both are fecking cool so its down to if your a chav or not????

I have to be honest I can't read mine without glasses in the dark if that helps.

I was thinking of the red.....

I'd never do it on my daily but on the Chim as a sense of occasion....

(Having said that, my daily has orange backlighting but not LED's)

I did all mine (except the clock as I couldn't find a "bulb" to fit it and I removed it to fit a Lambda gauge anyway) and they're not too bright for driving at night...

Phil,

What size bulbs and how many did you need?

Thanks

T'was one each for the minor gauges and two each for the speedo and tacho...

I tried lots of different bulbs before I found some that did a decent "flood" of light behind the gauges. I have posted up the bulbs a couple of times here but I'll see if I can find them again ... you need to be careful as not all the BA9 LED bulbs will fit through the bulb holes.

I'm pretty sure it was these in the minor gauges:

...and for the speedo and tacho I think I used these:

I think somehow, in a round about sort of way, this may be an answer to the original question? biggrin

ETA
Phil, I dread to think what sort of light shows your equalisers must have put on over the years hehe

you could fit a dimmer if the white LED it too bright. Or just stick as resistor on each 12v feed to get them how you want

Euuuuwwww ... "Equalisers"? Equalisers! You'll not find an equaliser, tone control or even a loudness button on any of my kit! :P

I'm just getting things in order to start moving stuff out of the flat over the next few weeks - so I just put away my set of these:

...thankfully I know the guy that owns the company that makes them so I came to a "deal" with him over them. biggrin

Come on Phil, fess up, we all had at least one equaliser in our time.
A man who water cools his amp will have owned at least one equaliser!

I should hope you got a deal on those; at that price you could be listening to tandem RV8s in your car smile

Back to the topic - you mentioned red LEDs. My Audi has red displays for date and time etc and they are awful to read at night if you need reading glasses at all.

I found it was cheaper to buy a bag of 10 of each from china than it was to buy the few that are actually needed, plus the sidelights in the headlights are the same so you can change them to led too. I bought a pre wired led and used that to stick in the clock hole to match the rest of the gauges, just wired it up then taped it down in the hole.
