I regularly see cars with "lady owner" advertised as if it should be some kind of hook to bring in potential buyers.. the question is WHY?? this isnt the 1940s where women often drove only occasionally to the local shops FFS..

from my own experience I always have to sell off any car the wife has had at a much reduced price due to the total lack of care and repsect she shows to anything she drives. I cant remember a car she has owned that has remained anywhere near factory fresh... car park dents, key scratches, total disregard for any kind of checking of oil level or tyre pressures...unless a light comes on or I do it. And the interior usually ends up looking like a pack of wild monkeys have been living in it if the keds are transported anywhere more than 3 times a week in it resulting in it requiring the type of deep clean that only hygeine failed indian take aways are usually required to perform..
The usual comment when anything is highlighted is "its only a car"..

My thoughts exactly...although my own personal hate is "first to see will buy"...really? how do you know that? Maybe the first to see will point a load of faults and offer you half of what you want !

I see it as a warning to budget for a clutch and to check if has ever been serviced

Holes in carpets from stiletto heels.
Scratches under door handles from long nails.
Marked interior handles and steering wheel from rings.
Difficult to select 1st gear because they try to ram it into first gear before the car has stopped.

Signs of lady owner when I have looked at cars;

- High clutch bite point.
- Gearbox linkage resembles stirring porridge.
- Plastic trims/leather/radio buttons damaged due to corrosive hand cream
- Scratches around outer door handle from fake nails.
- Kerbed wheels
- Generally poorly maintained ("Isn't an MOT a full service?")

Always check the choke lever for straightness, many women hang their handbags on them when in the fully out position.

Knackered clutch too.

I don't see the appeal of this lady owner lark, all the women I know who drive treat their cars no better than the blokes, and some far worse, my sisters has never seen a car wash and is like a rubbish tip inside.

And she bought a Porshe? Probably way beyond her driving ability, so she'll end up driving it like a shopping trolley.

This. My wife has a lovely A4 convertible, it's a 2003 car but only has 50k miles on it.
It was utterly immaculate when she got it and has since only ever been washed when I've felt sorry for it. The inside is usually full of crap too.
I drove it for the first time in a while last week and noticed that the handling was a little odd. Tyres were at 15-20psi all round.
Her last car (an A3) had a slight water leak that we could never trace. It used to get topped up when the heater stopped working.

She wonders why I don't like her driving my car while I'm offshore. It's not just the makeup on the interior, the fact it'll be filthy and full of stuff that rattles or the total lack of diesel when I get back, it's more the lack of care.

Never understood this 'Lady Owner' as a selling point.

I have to check the missus car for oil level, washer fluid, tyre pressure. None are by her request either. If I didnt do it I dread to think what state her car would be in. I even offer to clean it as it annoys me when its so dirty.

As said it suffers from the usual traits; scuffed bumpers, curbed wheels, apple cores in the footwell, scratched gear knob off rings etc, etc, etc.

That said im sure there are men who treat cars just as bad or worse. I prefer to buy a car private and see the owner with the car, if they know their way around it, under bonnet, maintenance routines and the likes its all plus points.
