Smart TV box recommendations

Happy new year one and all.

We have a non wifi non smart TV/dvd player etc downstairs and rather coughing up for new kit we are considering getting a smart TV box.Any recommendations ?

Having thought about it I can get a DVD recorder with 500gb HDD and smart capability & twin tuner for around £150.Seems a better idea to me.

The DVR relies on you setting up to record, whereas the "smart" box gives you the option to catch up on missed programmes and download films. Have a look at NowTV and xbmc boxes as possible options.

Thanks but the Nowtv box seems to have limited apps and I think no ethernet connection ?
