Do Cheap Chimaeras Exist?
Discussion
I'm toying with the idea of buying a cheap Chimaera. I don't care about cosmetics, I'm not even that interested in how quick it is, as I already have a 4.5 Cerb. Problem is that everything advertised now is asking more than I paid for my Cerb, which is absurd. There must be some cheap cars out there, any suggestions?
it's hard to say, take each car case by case but I think they are very cheap generally. It's a hell of a car for the money and I can't see them going any lower. Best time of year to buy though.
I'd say it's worth paying a bit extra at the start to save you lots of time and money fixing problems, unless you want a project?

Cheapest I've ever seen is about 5k. Not a great colour combo and over 100k on the clock.
I've heard of them selling for a lot less than that. In fact I know somebody who bought one very cheap a couple of months ago.
It was a Cat D (maybe a C) and went fine. It could certainly have used some cosmetics but looked reasonable value to me if you are prepared to get busy with the spanners.
I think the cheapies are out there and this will be the best time of year for it. I don't think PH is the place for the cheapies though, I think Ebay will be more realistic.
Project cars are out there as long as You accept that they will need work and at worst , outriggers. I won one for £4K on the bay which a friend brought and has been happily driving it daily and tracked it. Only expenditure was items he wanted to change. Oil/brake pads etc.
Brought another for £4k with 12 months mot ( not sure how - needed outriggers ) and split it to make two projects.
Brought another for £5.3K with 11 months mot , power steering and newish tyres , had to replace the starter motor last week and fix a power steering leak - no cost as was a rubber pipe come loose. Yes paint work has some cracks but looks ok from 20 yards.
all 400's by the way.
Cheers
Geoff.

A £4k 400 with MOT is the what I'm thinking. If the paint looks ok from 50 yards then that would do the trick. It would be a low mileage dry weather touring car, used only a few weeks each year, I wouldn't be tracking it either. I guess I'll just have to be patient.yes keep your eyes glued to the auction site and get lucky , You can always go and look at them first but even then You can't detect all issues. If You get it cheap enough and then find a problem then You can sell it on for same or just a bit cheaper ( and tell new purchaser what you found of course )
