What type of re-fueler are you?

....Do you fill up when the needle approaches the quarter full mark or do like that slight frisson of danger as the needle flirts with the red part of the fuel gauge? I,m in the latter camp.

In the company car just before I hit the red I'll fill it to the top.
With the personal cars I never fill to the top, I wait until the red light comes on. In the Merc or Lancia 40 quid is standard, with the Lotus 30 quid.
I seem to have some stupid idea that too much fuel means less mpg and it'll slow the car down. Must have convinced myself of this when I was a broke student and it's stayed with me.

I from my student days for some reason still fill from empty with £20's worth each time.
It was because 1) i never had the funds to chuck £45 odd in at one go. and 2) I want to be carrying as less weight as possible (because these things matter when you 18).
Now although I've been out of Uni and working 18 months, I find £20 can juts do for a weeks commute and a few journeys to the gym during the week, so its more a case of watching the pennies nowadays.

This. I truly don't understand why people only put £10 / £20 / £40 or whatever into their own vehicles, instead of just brimming it.
After crashing a previous car, writing it off with a full tank of super, I don't like leaving it full.If the car is stolen, crashed or sold then why should someone else get free fuel?

But that's the point, you end up spending more on petrol if you only fill up occasionally. Firstly because you waste far more going to the petrol station than you'd ever save in MPG from running the car about 10kg lighter; and secondly because fuel is currently going up in price faster than general inflation so the petrol in your tank is an appreciating asset. I brim it once the low level light is on. Life is too short to be stood next to a pump more than is necessary.

I suppose you don't own a watch or a mobile phone or carry any cash whatsoever in your wallet either, just on the off-chance that you get mugged? Or have a nice house in case a plane lands on it?
What a daft way to inconvenience yourself based on an incredibly unlikely occurrence.
