I had a quick look to see the weight of some of my previous cars and am surprised at some of them, i.e. my old 330d touring was 1700kg which is 80kg heavier than my 645ci.

This had me thinking what other cars out there that are surprisingly lardy?

04` 645ci auto - 1620kg
03` 330d M Sport Touring Auto - 1700kg
01` 330ci Auto - 1540kg
04` Clio 182 - 1090kg
00` 530d Manual - 1700kg

To be fair, that Clio is heavier than i thought it would be.

I always thought Porsches were very light for what they are-wasn't the 996 1300kg?

I'm going to take a random stab that the 3 litre diesel lump in the 330d and 530d is rather heavy..
Would be interesting to know the weight of the diesel version of 6 series.

Agreed, though I would have thought it was going to be heavier. The 635d is 1650kg

p.s the figures quoted are from parkers

The 350z is over 1600kgs with only 2 seats, alloy bonnet / suspension, CF / plastic prop, no rear firewall, alloy engine block, forged alloy wheels.

fk knows how they made is so heavy. Its impressive.

A quick bit of googling shows that the early 330/530d engine had an iron block but later engines (likely to be the one in the 635d) are aluminium block.

I'm sure that make a biiiig difference in weight.

Not entirely sure why the Clio 182 is mentioned in here? 1090kg for a hatchback with a 2 litre engine, cruise control, climate control, side impact bars, loads of airbags etc etc etc, seems light to me.

I agree. The 182 with it's heavy dual-outlet exhaust is surprisingly light at 1090kg

Likewise 1640kg for a big two-door coupe with frameless doors (and therefore lots of body strengthening) and a V8 sounds quite light.

A 645Ci Auto weighing a bit over 1.6 tonnes is hardly lardy.

It's a fairly big GT car.

It's a muscle car, not a sports car. It was never a sports car.

The Mustang GT is the lightest of that genre at under 1600kgs, quite a lot lighter than a Monaro.

Pretty sure these weights are the EU kerb weight, i.e. with 75kg of driver/luggage and a full(?) tank of fuel.

So an empty Clio 182 with the fuel light on might dip under a ton - pretty impressive.

Likewise would probably disagree with the 1*2 being mentioned, though if you skip forward a generation the 197/200 is probably a candidate.

197/200 - 1204kg (add 30kg for aircon as well iirc)

I've not got the figures in front of me, I remember when considering a 1 series, my research suggested it must be made from victorian railway girders. Properly heavy little flucker.

SL55AMG - 1955kgs. Considering its size, that car must be filled with lead.

Isn't the mk3 also under a tonne? Pretty impressive considering what an Elise weighs with a similar drive train.
