...and f*ck me what a ridiculously fun car laugh

It had the DCT box and in full on attack mode it blips the throttle on downshifts, being particularly loud when going back into first. It was also far more tail happy than I thought it would be; the brakes were superb. I visited the petrol station 4 times in 3 days-I couldn't stop driving it!

Which begs the question to the owners amongst us-what are they like as a daily hack? If you sold yours what did you replace it with??

I use mine as my only car, drives to work every day, and never fails to put a smile on my face, just the V8 burble at 40mph is silly fun, and the odd tail out moment on roundabouts makes the daily commute so much fun...

when you press on it is stunning, i have some trips planned later this year, so look forward to giving it a proper thrashing biggrin

They are rather good! driving

Thirst for fuel is really the only detractor as an everyday hack. In all other respects, they're great as a daily driver - especially with the DCT box for pootling through city traffic in auto mode.

Before I had my E46, I drove a manual E92 M3 in anger around a track on one of those drivers days. It was great fun!

I came home and went straight to the classifieds for a look at prices.

Sadly, they were out of budget, and still are now really.

I went for manual (personal preference) as for the thirst, i dont think that bothers me (i did even get 27.7MPG on a sensible run once) its more the range, with about 250 miles between fill ups i would've prefered a bigger fuel tank.

Dad has just got an LE500 cab in Santorini blue, amazing machine.

Does anyone know if the car has a 'valved' exhaust? If so, when does it open? Full throttle or whenever you are in M mode?

no it doesn't

and IMO the standard exhaust is awful, its almost like BMW were embarassed it was a V8...

I have an AC schnitzer aftermarket on.... much more applicable for the car wink

Very small world!

I know that location rather well... wink
As it happens some family members live just off Thornford Road between the roundabout off the A339 and the turning down to the ford.

Sounds a bit more like it for a V8!

I was going to get one before I ended up getting my M6 V10.

I chose the wildest paint I could find - Phoenix Yellow - and the gearbox was DCT. Ended up missing out on it by 30 mins when someone put in a deposit before me. Was gutted.

Awesome awesome all around machine and the gearbox means you really can leave it in automatic mode and it'll pootle along like a real auto would. Thirst is a downside and if you get it in a 'standard' colour they blend in with other E9X 3 series models.

For me, the noise was a big factor and just how chuckable they are.

Using mine as a daily drive is great. Its a 6 mile drive to work along some great backroads into work then a hoon home. As I tend to work away from the office alot offshore I might only be in the office once or twice a month.

If I did upgrade would have to be to the new M4 or the F Type Coupe. Aston Martin DBS would be nice but bit out of my price range. My problem is I need an automatic as I have problems with my left knee, number of rugby injuries and other things means I can pop my knee in and out of the joint. Painful but I can do it with a good bang off a desk.

So anything with a DCT gearbox and I'm in love.

I'm on my second e92 M3, fantastic cars and the engine really suits the DCT box.

I love holding it in 4th or 5th at around 2k and listening to the V8 burble as you put the engine under load as well as that frantic sweep of the dial between 7000-8400k going from 3rd to 4th it really does pull up there.

Although its never been a darling of the PH forums I have a sneaking suspicion that as prices come down it will be a lot more popular as they are fast, reliable and comfortable making them a perfect all rounder.

You see, i went for black as i think darker colours actually highlight the arches and bonnet bulge better, plus i quite like the fact to unknowing eyes its just another 3 series...

My daily driver is an E92 M3 but in manual guise. Love the car. There isn't anything for me that could replace it at the moment.

Oh, and you need the 'OEM exhaust mod'...

I had the pleasure of a nice long drive in a PHer's E92 M3 a couple of years ago and absolutely loved it. I've driven a huge number of sub £60k saloons (inc almost all BMW models) and I can comfortably say that the E92 M3's my favourite. They're also one of the last cars to have a high capacity and high revving normally aspirated engine; that alone is reason to buy one - enjoy a proper engine whilst you can!

It's precisely this reasoning that got me back into an e92 in the summer, and which makes me feel rather pessimistic about the imminent turbo-charged M3/4s. It just ain't right!

M3s should be normally aspirated screamers. No doubt much will be made of the new car's higher torque at low revs, but (to my mind at least) the character of the M3 (e30 all the way through to e92) has been about the joy of making them sing.

I had an e92 for two years, great car - probably just call out the down side and that (for me) was that it could have sounded a lot more aggressive in standard guise - it sounded nice when it was in its cold start cycle! that's about my only complaint - was my daily driver and i tracked it a few times - great fun. I have since traded into a c63 507 coupe, perfect next step for me.
