Afternoon all, time has come to either use or sell my cerbera so I'm going to bite the bullet and go for gold and do a full body off re-furb. I know there have been several posts/threads about this but which in your opinion is the best guide? It's a 98 4.2 with full workshop facilities, I would preferably like the leave the engine in situe until the body is off.
Thanks in advance

Well Doug,

I take this early opportunity to wish you the very best with your mammoth task.

If you could keep a photo record of your task I would love to include it as an article in the TVRCC magazine, SPRINT so just remember....

If you can pull the engine before hand, it'll give you a little more space to work.

I've just done one of these on a 97 4.2 , you will need to pull the engine or its a massive chore. Mind the throttle linkage on the way out as it will catch the bulkhead. The front body to chassis bolts will be corroded in as well as they catch all the s**t from the road. Try not to let the temptation of cutting the rear seat bolts overcome you either as they are bonded onto the underside of the seat. Try not to bend the pipe that runs to the temp gauge either as this is full of alcohol and will not work afterwards. Take pictures of all the boot electrics and how they are connected. good luck

I've assisted Tanguero and djstevec, I'm glad the engine was already out.

Having done body lifts both ways, take the engine out first - it makes the whole job massively easier!

I left the engine in when I did it, here's my guide to doing it that way.

You do need to take at least one of the exhaust manifolds off to get the body off though, so that alone makes it easier to take the engine out first!

Did anyone else read that as "Baw hair"?

Watching with interest though. I think I'm going to do mine next year. I had the coolant header tank out on Saturday and was looking at the white steel tray with flaking powdercoat and thinking "Hmmm. Looks sh*te".

My chassis is ok but certainly doesn't look very good. I managed to put a tiny dent in an outrigger tube the first time I tried to jack the car as well, suggesting that the wall thickness perhaps wasn't what it should have been. If I can get another year out of it I'll be happy though - moving house must be my focus this year!
