Clutch replacement
Discussion
Hi all - I had a service in November and the dealers have suggested I will need a new clutch soon.
My car is a V8 Vantage Roadster Sportshift (57 plate) and has just done over 42k. I'm based in Berkshire, does anyone know any good independent's that would do a clutch replacement?
Are there any obvious signs that the clutch needs changing?

They offer a great aftermarket upgrade for less money.

How many clutches has it had in its life? Be surprised on a Sportshift if thats the original. Dealers can tell from diagnostics on a Sportshift (only the Sportshift) how much clutch is left.My car is a V8 Vantage Roadster Sportshift (57 plate) and has just done over 42k. Trinity in Cobham are a good independant.
Bamford Rose actually make their own clutch - longer lasting, lighter lywheel - makes the car rev quicker. But costs more than the AM one.

Thanks for the speedy replies. I've had the car since July so I'm not sure if it's on the first clutch or not? Sounds like perhaps not?!Trinity in Cobham are a good independant.

Given the issues with the Sportshift does the Bamford Rose clutch make things any smoother?

It does make the changes smoother but won't overcome "creep mode or the high reverse gear
I drove a car the same as mine but with the BR clutch package much much better!
I believe the AM dealers can do a measure on the wear on a clutch specifically fitted to a car with the sport shift gearbox, they use the AM software (ADMS) to measure the "kiss point" relative to the factory settings
But bear in mind the AM dealers also recommend replacing parts at service time although they have plenty life remaining but their recommendation is based on not seeing the car for another year until the next service

That was my concern - they recommended the clutch replacement back in November. I haven't actually done that many miles since though. But bear in mind the AM dealers also recommend replacing parts at service time although they have plenty life remaining but their recommendation is based on not seeing the car for another year until the next service
I was wondering if there was any other way of knowing over and above the dealers suggestion?

Bit of delayed reply here!
Is there anyway of knowing if the clutch is about to go? Does it feel or drive any different?
Thanks.
Post this on the Bamford Rose sponspred area at the top fop the page, if Mike isn't too snowed under you may get an answer from a grown up. In the Maser days, with the CambioCorsa box you could tell clutch wear as a percentage. However, there was a guy driving round with a clutch that was 115% worn, so it wasn't foolproof, as you might expect with Maserati Is there anyway of knowing if the clutch is about to go? He will say - you can measure it on SS cars using AM Diagnostics. Can't be done on 'normal' cars. I assume all the recommended Indys have AM diadnostics
