Battery light?
Discussion
Hmmmm well that's the thing, I haven't been driving it of late, I just start it, let it run for a bit. Keep things from Getting to cold etc
the battery was spot on... Left the car for a few days bearing in mind it was starting great,
Went to it and it was as flat as can be, maybe the courtesy light had been left on,
The battery light wasn't staying in before it went flat either.
And I haven't driven it, plus the goes brighter with revs.

I went on a track evening in the summer.
40 miles to Cadwell Park.
Drove all evening.
30 minutes before the end I thought I saw a faint red glimmer on the dash.
By the end of the session it was pretty bright.
Drove home, really bright light by the time I got home.
Alternator fubarred.
New one ordered and fitted.
Problem gone.
Alternators fail gradually. Looks like yours might be going. No saying just how charged your battery was the previous week.
I could be wrong. It could also be a failing battery, but I don't remember seeing the battery light when mine did.

Start the engine and warm it up. Let engine idle and connect voltmeter between terminals. It should read 14.5V. If not, the alternator or it's diodes are failing. From what you describe about the light going brighter with revs sounds like faulty diodes of the Alternator. I hope that helps.

I know this sounds obvious but is the alternator belt on?? Last year I was out for a run in mine and the light came on, lifted the bonnet to find the nut that held the alternator pulley on had come loose and the pulley had come off. Belt was roughly in the right place, I didn't twig it for a few minutes!!
Someone said to me once that it takes a good 1 hour run to replace the charge starting the car takes out of the battery, perhaps that is part of it?? Do you have a conditioner for when it is parked up???

Now then!! You could be onto something there, Someone said to me once that it takes a good 1 hour run to replace the charge starting the car takes out of the battery, perhaps that is part of it?? Do you have a conditioner for when it is parked up???
I noticed the belt was a bit slack, at the same time I was replacing the charged battery..
Do I nipped it up... I'll check that in the morning, cheers Dave.... Oh how do you mean conditioner where it's parked??

Get yourself a multimeter... They are cheap and a must for the garage.
Batteries don't last forever and as cold cranking is so heavy you need a good battery.
Tip for you...the better Bosch (silver top) are better at being stood and I've had mine 4 years now and its still going strong..

Hi Mate..a battery conditioner helps to keep the battery charged whilst the car sits in a garage...Unfortunately i can't recommend any as i don't use them..My wedge is my daily drive..Unless its pishing down..You can buy alternator diode/Rectifier packs but get yours tested first..Obviously make sure the belt is the right tightness also..Not too tight, I think its about 5mm over and under the level line..= 10mm total..Ziga

Yep, that is it. I use an Airflow conditioner on mine, it is connected whenever the car is parked up and they are suppossed to cycle the battery as well as keeping it topped up. Difference to a charger is it clicks on and off as needed. You can get Airflow ones on line for around £40, there are many others also.
Hi Rik
A battery conditioner will keep your battry charged and will extend the batt life, but first you must have a good battery and a working alternator, because with out those no conditioner will stop your problem.
Get your alternator checked after you have checked the drive belt is OK. If they are OK then its a n_ _ _ _ _d battery.
Also if you have an alarm, or immobilser fitted they can easily drain your batt, but not as bad as leaving an interior light on.
If you want a conditioner the Accumate is a good battery conditioner to have, it's not the cheapest nor the most expensive but the one most people use who have them.
I use them for my collection. I even have a couple of the vehicles with them built in so I can connect them any were there's a power socket I can use!

Cheers Andy, I'm redoing the interior at the moment, so think I may have caught the interior light, I have to say, before and now the batt is charged, it sounds very strong!
I'll check the alt it's funny that I altered the tension in the belt, then it stated, didn't think till Dave400 mentioned it.
Thanks again mate
