We've got a difficult situation where we are going to have to inform a very good friend that his family pet is no longer welcome in our house. He will understand without doubt, but nonetheless an awkward situation still.
We have two dogs and two cats all living in harmony in the house, but when the friend first brought his dog around it tried to kill one of the cats. Since then we have shut the cat in a room whilst he visits. Then the next visit his dog did a pee on our utility room floor. The visit after that, the lounge floor. The last visit it chased cat number two and when my daughter went to bed, she found it had shat on her bed!!!
So what the f*** is the little bast@rd doing? I take it this is a territorial thing? AND, can I assume it will always do it?shoot

How about they keep it on the lead?

Our dogs are VERY excitable when we go to others houses so we keep them on the lead, no issues there.

Both pees were when it was on the lead. We just happened to turn towards it to see the puddles!
Note too, that the dog doesn't do it at home or in a pub etc.

I'm in the same boat only I own the "unwelcome" dog.

Although not to the Sam extent my dog only chased their cats whilst in the garden, BT when the were inside ignored them.

But, tbh i wouldn't trust her not to give it a go indoors if provoked.

My best mate (yes he was my best man) didn't need to say anything to me, I just don't take her... It's a bit of a pain as they live 100miles away so when we're going out I drop the dog off at the dog sitters.

My dog occasionally scent marks when at my sister's house. They have a dog who was his main buddy when a puppy. Luckily they have wooden floors. He doesn't do it anywhere else though. He certainly doesn't sh*t on the bed.

Frankly the first time your friend's dog tried to hurt your cat, he should have stopped bringing it to your house.

This is true. The dog is a rescue animal and it was the first time since they have owned it that it met a cat. After the event it was kept on a lead so all was well until it started misbehaving in other ways!

Can anyone explain the dog's behaviour regarding the pee etc? What is the dog trying to say?

Excitement and anxiety/ apprehension all rolled into one I would guess.

A friend does dog minding and finds that often, although owners say there dog is "house trained", the first time her back is turned it'll piss on the floor. Truth is unless the dog has been in a lot of houses, it's actually just "their house trained" and won't soil in it's/thier home; Your house is a different matter.

Though I'd suspect this is just a matter of stress and a dislike for cats. If mine had done that he'd have been left at home or in the car on any other visit without having to be asked.

This. I wouldn't take my dog anywhere if he was being a problem.

I don't think I will be complaining about my own dog again.

You have two cats and two dogs? Fruit loop.

Tell your friend - if he's a friend he will understand, it shouldn't be awkward or the end of the world, it's your pets and his pets being non compatible, that's all!

Given the amount of rain we've had lately that might be such a bad idea!

What is wrong with that? We have three of each, and our dogs are 8-9 stone......

How do you stop the cats & dogs eating the chickens? We're going to be in that situation in a year or so (but more chickens) so tips would be handy.

Badly behaved dog in friend's house? Mine would never be taken in again, why would there be any question, same goes for kids. If your friend can't see how to behave by not bringing the dog into a place where it will be unhappy/stressed, let alone cause a stupid amount of angst, then not really a sensible dog owner or friend.
