Collected 4636 on 28th December after being recommended to me by Adrian@. Looks like I am going to have to buy some imperial spanners. New to TVR and new to forums but I can see that I will need some advice and this looks like a good place. Neil

Welcome to the world of TVR (the mad, mad world of TVR)

At least you found her indoors.......what did happen to the bonnet ?

What are your plans? Full nut and bolt restoration or get it fixed up as a useable classic?
Would love to see more pictures and as has been said any help needed just ask there is always someone ready to help.
Where are you based?

Good luck with the resto mate.

I have a mass of pre and post restoration photos for reference here, http://s860.photobucket.com/user/hallsie/library/#... and there are plenty of people on here that will help.

Im about 3 hours away from MOT with mine now, but the back is playing up so it will have to wait for a while!

All the best

Hi All, many thanks for all the encouraging comments. The car was last on the road in 2002, in good condition and having undergone several improvements. Unfortunately after failing MOT she was left in a garage for over 10 years. In the last couple of years the garage roof was leaking and as the car had various boxes stacked on it which became soaked the paintwork on the bonnet blistered as shown in the previous photo. The inside was also water logged and carpets ruined. Having brought the car home, carpets have been removed and the blistered paint scraped off. Next job is to remove the body and establish the condition of chassis. This is where I discover if it was a bargain or not such a great buy. The engine was rebuilt in 2001 and has covered less than 2000 miles. Gearbox reconditioned and overdrive fitted. This may have to be replaced with type 9 as I understand a good conversion is not possible due to differences in chassis. Interior was re fitted in 2000 and having just been cleaned looks really good. New carpets are required. Bonnet is to be re sprayed but the rest of the body work although not perfect quite respectable. I am too impatient for a full nut and bolt rebuild but everything has to work correctly. I hope to end up with a car that’s 80%. Not showroom but a long way from a banger.

Might be worth seeing how much of the chassis you can see (around the engine bay, by removing the rear wheels or, best, getting it on a lift) before you take the body off. If you don't want perfection you may not need to take it off and would save yourself time and grief.

Offside front outrigger is a definite repair due to the way the roof was leaking. But the top of the chassis that the body sits on looks like surface rust. The chassis was replaced around 1990. I want to clean, treat, paint and waxoyl so I know it has years left in it. I would love to strip it, sandblast and paint a funky colour but not as much as drive it.

So, yesterday was a day well spend in the workshop then ?

I actually can see why Adrian has recommended this, I too do like the colour combo.

If you are planning on a type 9, you might remove engine and box, lift the front of the tub a couple of inches, replace the front outrigger and treat the chassis as good as possible. (Dare I say painted pink ?)

As she has been standing for so long you probably want to have a good look at the suspension (bushes and shocks), brakes and soforth

As the interior has been waterlogged, perhaps you want to strip it completely, dry it out and refit, to prevent the car from smelling like a kanoo next summer..........

It is actually a shame a car as nice as this one has been abandoned the way it has been !

Good luck on the resto, keep us posted (pictures can tell a thousand words......)

Frank

And Hide a Multitude of sins last car I went to see looked great in the Pictures but was far from it when I saw it in the flesh however if the Chassis was replaced you probably will escape the usual rot at the back above the Diff but well worth doing the chassis right the rest are things that can be done whenever depending on what you want enjoy the journey

Removed seats and bolts holding body to chassis today without need of angle grinder so quite please that the corrosion is not as bad as it looks. I am based in Billericay Essex so if anyone is local your more than welcome to come and have a look. Neil
