With the car off the road for the next month and due to the fact that the Gaz shocks have been on my car for around 7 or 8 years, I think I might treat them to a service. They still look in good shape but no doubt the internals could benefit from some attention.

Does Derek still work for Absolutely Shocks? (I have been 3 years without the car so not sure who is still about smile )

How much would it cost for all 4 to get serviced, anyone had it done before? Also the car was set up by Steve Gugliemi back in 2010 but it has only done about 2000 miles since then. As long as I make notes of all the settings and heights I should be OK without having to get it set up again won't I?

Not 100% sure if Del is still there or not. Mark or Warren are though if you can speak to them, top blokes!

I spoke to a woman at Gaz maybe 6 months ago and asked to speak to derek ref getting some dampers rebuilt (leaking and knocking) but she said derek didn't work there any more. The woman was helpful though and the dampers turned around quickly. When they started leaking again though the customer just told me to fit another make of damper. If they're not leaking a the moment you might be better off leaving them as they are?

I had my S2 fitted with Gaz golds at the factory,,,,, is Derek a tall chap in his late 50's possibly early 60's??

Was well known in the S club circles?

Just wondering.

I suspect that you will need a ride height adjust, followed by a 4 wheel alignment, following removing and replacing the dampers.

Hmm, I've always found Derek to be a really helpful chap and hope he's still there. As for the other place you mention, I was pointed in their direction and would NEVER go again furious

Yep, that sounds like Derek.

for the OP, I had my Gaz Nickels refurbished last spring and although they turned them around very quickly they came back with a few issues.
One of the locking rings had all the corners bashed off and one of the bushes had already broken the rubber away from its metal sleeve.
I contacted Gaz about this and they sent me a new lock ring and because I could get the bushes pressed out at work they also sent me a full set of replacement bushes.
I had about a dozen photos of every shock before I sent them so it was easy to show them evidence the damaged ring wasn't there before they were sent.

A happy ending and good on Gaz for resolving things quickly for me, but a note of caution to photograph every shock methodically "just in case"

Yeah that is him indeed. Unfortunately i have just checked and he isn't at GAZ anymore but i would still expect to see him around the various paddocks!

That's interesting, I was more than happy with their service and the car felt great. What was your experience?

Thanks everyone for your input, obviously looks like it may not be as cut and dry as I first thought. I think I will just give them a good check up and clean and see how they are when the car is back on the road, and if it ain't broke don't fix it.

That's a really good point to photo before and after!

Thanks for that chaps I thought it was the same guy.

Seems I should get the wheels off and check the buggers.

Mine still shine like new but at least one shock isn't damping correctly.

like a tit i couldn't get it to handle not actually realising a shock might be faulty. Nerk.

Got so fed up I wound the adjusters to 0 and only when I'd got to 10 clicks did one shock start to show different damping to the opposing shock !!!!!!

Aaaaaaar got it now. I'll get the Shocks off and I'll see what's going on.

Its not clever if you ask me.

What model were they Jools?

I have a rustle type rattle on my Monos, have renewed the ally mount bushes and still the same.

Have fitted my spare Golds and the car is silent, (for a TVR anyhow!).

Appalling, shame I can't go into detail on here [can PM anyone though]. Had new shocks fitted and set-up [and I was]. Car drove like a sofa on a shopping trolley with a wonky wheel. When I got car up in garage at home it was obvious why, shocking. [pardon the pun]

They can't go on upside down surely,

Can't recieve emails for wks now, its getting a joke, but that's a sorry sounding tale!

All I know is between the tyres the shocks and your arse its the only way to tell what the cars doing.

Rather important then, in the future I'd buy the best money can get you and go on from there.

I always stray from the point,

Nothing wrong with Gaz when there working!

I've heard many a good report on Gaz repairs but still repairs!
Its a shock !

Could you send me PM please. A shame really as they are not far from me. Any other recommendations for local geo set up?

I think they were the std nickels, certainly twin tubes not monos. One was leaking, one was knocking .. came back very quickly and looking beautiful and no noises it has to be said , but three started leaking shortly afterwards, customer cut his losses at that point.

That sounds like a right pain in the ass.

The Pro's fitted to my old S2 were sound!

Handled lovely so its hard to be objective.

I still have to take mine off but for sure at least one rear is naff.

I've done about 12,000 miles on them and one hard trackday,

The trackday I was going harder and harder on settings and still got some wollowing from the rear, I feel that one shock has not been right from the start!!!

I'm not having a go and if I get treated well then alls fine but FFS.

Thanks for that Jools, interesting.

To be fair, my Monos were a pre production set that lasted about 4 years, 30K miles and countless TDs.

I don't know what the noise is but Mark from GAZ is attentive and I'm taking the car there next week to hopefully sort.
