Can you afford to keep it going if you get a cheap one?
The X100 I bought for £3400 has needed in the last 3 months:
Winter tyres £950
Engine Rebuild after bottom end went £2400
Gearbox solenoid, valve pack & loom replacement £380
New rear bushes £120 (I think)
New battery £80
It has spent the last 2 weeks being an absolute sod to start (refused flatly on 2 separate days) and is going back to the Jag Centre on Saturday for inspection. Sod's law it has started first time this last 2 days.
It will also be having an oil leak located (could need new oil cooler hoses)
When it runs, it's a gorgeous thing, but it's proving ruinous. Hopefully there's not much left to replace now.

I don't concur. Buy on condition not on price. Just because it's a low miler and it look reasonable doesn't make it the best buy.
An expensive one could ruin you as easily as a cheap one. Saw several last year which were up for decent money with lowish mileage but had rotten floor pans. Conversely there was a cheap high miler XKR where everything had been done to keep it in good nick. In the last year it had had a nose respray, gearbox oil change, bolster repair on the drivers seat, wheels refurbished etc. It was mint but because it had just a tad over 200k on the clock the bloke selling it couldn't get decent money for it despite it being in better condition than ones with 70k miles on the clock. Mate of mine picked it up for £4750 which I consider to be a real bargain.
