Spotted today that one of the driveshaft gaitors has split, and am debating doing all 4 for peace of mind. Where is the best place to get them, any to avoid? Never had to do it before but understand how to do it.

I found it a yucky job and had to use a press to remove the CV joints, which I chose to replace as well. If I thought the CV's were more than 4or 5 years old I would be changing them at the same time, although this does put a couple of hundred quid on the job. You can get everything from these guys

http://www.prolinx.biz/Driveshaft_prices.htm all original spec as well.

I have heard people talk about stretchy boots that will go over the CV joint but have no experience of them.

Or talk to Dave Mac Propshafts - http://www.davemacprops.com/dmphome.html - they were as cheap as I could find and he seems to know TVR driveshafts like the back of his hand!

Think I got mine from clever trevor, they provide the moly grease and new clips. A really horribly messy job, but a very satisfying one when done. Don't forget the circlips at the end of the driveshafts holding the cv joints on. Mine were hidden under so much greese I couldn't see them so spent half an unsuccessful hour trying to stretch them on with a cone!
Your wise to replace all 4 whilst the cars up. Mine were inspected by myself during the last service, 1 month later I inspected them again and 3 out of the 4 had split. Even though they were 12 years old that's still quite a coincidence.

Thanks, I think Clever Trevor will be the ones to go for, £40 for the lot with clips and grease sounds good to me.

Did you guys pull apart the joints, totally clean and repack with grease or just change the gaiters and pack in the new grease if needed?

I replaced the CV's on mine, but had I not I would have completely cleaned out the one that has the broken boot and the others I would give a general goop out and repack.
Do check all the joints for play though beforehand, it's not a job I'd want to do too often.
Also remember to mark the shafts for inside/ outside.

Did this job on my old Chim in 2012.
One boot had split, didn’t know how long it had been like this so changed the CV joint for a new one and renewed the other three gaiters as well.

It’s a pig of a job if you don’t have a pit or lift - do it once and do it well.

And it’s a +1 for Dave Mac, supplied a spot on CV joint with gaiter, grease etc. Very friendly, knew exactly what I needed when I called him.

Once the circlips are removed you could pull the joints off if you wanted. I was satisfied they were all in good condition with no play so just scooped out all the old greese and re-packed with new. Just make sure the circlips are re-placed in to their groove correctly. I gently tapped mine in with a screwdriver and spun it around a few times to be sure it was correctly seated. Enjoy!
Couldn't resist painting the drive shafts black whilst I was at it - got to be done!
