Hi all. Well Ive been thinking about it for months and now just bought an XK 5.0 in ultimate black I have to say its just about the most beautiful car Ive ever seen in the flesh. It does have 74000 miles on, but I don't think that's a problem, it drives like new. Does anyone know definitively what the Portfolio has that the Base XK does not?

Good choice, you must have been tempted by late 4.2 XKR's, but the 5.0 is a better engine and the car finished to a higher quality.

I am assuming at that mileage it was a relatively early 5.0? circa 09/10 plate?

If so the Portfolio extras were:

Heated windscreen
Keyless entry
16 way electric seats as opposed to 10 way
Perforated Softgrain leather as opposed to Bondgrain
Contrasting stitching on seats, door cards and dash
Heated and cooled seats
Heated steering wheel
Premium carpet mats (leather edged and Jaguar logo)
Suedecloth headlining
Bowers & Wilkins 525w premium stereo
20" Kalimnos alloys as opposed to the 18" Venus
More choice of interior colour schemes
More choice on veneers
More choice on hood colours if convertible

Of course your car could have some of the above as factory options from new. If you want to PM me the Reg. / chassis No. I could send you the factory build spec if you like? I could also post you a relevant period brochure if you send me your address as I always keep a few for reference.

Hope you enjoy the car.

Lovely car!

I have a 4.2L XKR Coupe and a 5.0L XK Convertible (Portfolio).

They're all fab cars whatever the spec.

Well that's answered my question thanks :-). It is a 59 plate, and has the Kalaminos alloys and keyless entry, to me the wheels are the only thing that I would miss from the portfolio and mine has those, plus new dunlops all round. My only concern is the mileage at 74K as I am likely to do around 30K miles a year in it, but I just couldn't resist it.

Lovely car. I would be interested to hear how you get on with the car as I am also considering buying an early 5.0 N/A coupe for use as a daily driver. With my budget I'll probably be looking at a car with between 60k and 70k miles on it.

I am also looking at late 4.2 XKR vs 5.0 XK. Is the later XK a much better car. Will I miss the sound of the xkr? I assume the old XKR had specially tuned chassis/ brakes etc?
My budget is circa £25-27k. What would PHers go for?
many thanks

You'd get your pick of the 4.2 XKRs for up to £27k, probably one with low miles and the approved warranty if you go through the Jaguar AUC scheme. I paid about £23k for a Midnight Black 2008 XKR with most of the options and about 72k on the clock last year, they wear their miles very well given proper maintenance, care and servicing but your budget would get you an even later one with lower miles.

You probably could get an early 5.0 XK for that budget now, not sure about an XKR though. The 4.2 XKR is quicker than a 5.0 XK but not by an awful lot. Personally I don't think the 5.0 pre-facelift cars look as nice as the 4.2s, the post-facelift ones look nicer but I'd only have one in a dark colour (black or Stratus grey) and only with the black exterior trim, I'm not really into chrome. That's just me though.

The 5.0 cars do get some newer tech like fully adaptive suspension (the 4.2s have 2-way adaptive suspension), more up to date infotainment and the newer, slightly more efficient engines.

For me, I love my 4.2 and I don't find myself lusting after a 5.0 XKR. An XKR-S, however... One day...
