Hi Guys.

I had a tiny scuff on my gear stick on my BMW (which I think is wrapped in low-grade leather of some sort - so not nappa or anything like that) which turned into this lime-green sort of colour.

It was a bit of an eyesore, so I incorrectly applied some scuff-master to it (the first time I used the product) and I had these nasty water marks form around it, even though it wasn't green any more. This annoyed me, so I decided to remove it using some nail varnish remover (which worked) and more or less start again.

I used the 'colour wash' technique the 2nd time round and it worked well, and there are no water marks

However, I am concerned that I might have stripped off some top layer/sealant of BMW's original/factory dye (in the region around the scuff) when I rubbed it with nail varnish remover.

1) Am I right to be concerned that I might have removed some of the factory sealant?

2) Is there anything I can put on it (a sealant of some sort) to ensure that it fixes/restores any top-layer sealant that I may have rubbed off?

Sunny.

I use black shoe polish on that sort of thing. But then my interior's black and we don't know the colour of yours...

Alternatively you can buy small tubs of leather dye on ebay for a few ££

Oh, no actual dye rubbed off, as the whole point was to repair the scuff. As it stands, it all looks black (like factory)

My concern is if I removed some sealant from the factory dye itself- I don't know how delicate sealant is/how strong nail varnish remover is. If I have removed some sealant, is there any way to restore it?
