BT Infinity - slow after installation

Hi All,

I've had BT infinity for 5 days now and was initially very happy.

I was getting 30mb/s download and 10mb/s upload.

5 days in and I only get 12mb/s download and 8mb/s upload at best. It fluctuates during the day and can be as low as 7mb/s which is what I was getting before Infinity.

I have called and raised the issue, but BT keep telling me to run their speed checker and keep an eye on it?!?!

Anyone else had any problems?

I'm checking through the usual online speed checkers and the BTwholesale site, which BT told me to test against.

Ditch the BT home hub.

I found this to be the bottleneck.

I had infinity installed march 2012 and had speed problems from the start along with line drop outs.
Lenovo windows laptop could only achieve speeds of around 9Meg wirelessly. this went up to 15Meg with a wired connection.
Countless visits from BT and 2 router changes forced me into sorting it myself. Since i was going to move over to apple products i decided on the Airport extreme router and an Airport express as a booster for my signal in the rest of the house.

Immediately the speed went up to 28M wirelessly and 36M wired (36.98 was my line profile speed on Bt wholesale website)
I then was upgraded to the 80M service for free and got a Line profile of 56.72M.

Since upgrading the laptop to a Macbook pro i get a constant 54M wirelessly and have never had a drop out.

I know you shouldn't have to pay for your own router but in my case it was worth EVERY penny and i don't regret spending.

Hopefully the latest HH5 has been supplied this time, which is a completely different from the HH3 you probably got.

Yes i did get the HH3 and maybe so, i haven't seen the HH5 in action so can't comment.
One other factor that swayed my decision was that i live in a cul-de-sac and 5 of my neighbours have BT infinity all of which are within wireless range. This plays havoc with the auto wireless channel selection as there were overlaps.
I used a network scanner and could not find a spare channel without some overlap to at least one other router.

Hello OP here.

I do have the Home Hub 5, which is supposed to be amazing ?!?!?

I also have it connected (wired) to my BT Youview box......so I've gone all out with BT.....phone, fibre broadband and TV.

The service I went for was the 38mb max download with a 40G cap. Which is fine for me but I have just noticed that my Youview box keeps loosing it connection, which is wired!!!!

BT coming tomorrow, so will keep you all posted.

Update, bt engineer has been out. My master socket & additional socket were wired incorrectly.

I now have 40+ mb/sec.....yipee.

Was the issue with your extension wiring then? If so you were lucky openreach havent charged you for that but good result non the less.

Cant wait for my Sky fibre to be activated on Thursday.

The original installation engineer assumed master socket was the in hall way!

So the signal/data was going wrong socket first and then to the socket where the HomeHub 5 was plugged into.
