What sort of pig ignorant fking clown show is this, that due to loosing satellite fix (weather) I am also unable to watch stuff I have recorded. In bed with a damn ear infection and unable to watch squat that I have recorded over Christmas, something i have spent all day looking forward to.

Why in all that is fkwittery has Sky burdened me with this retarded feature? Am I likely to have a useless TV every time the weather decides to be typically British and blow the satellite around the sky for a bit, or god forbid, rain on us?

I imagine it is some sort of protection they bestow on us to prevent huge volumes of their customers recording shows then sharing the sky box round the neighborhood, which we are all clearly itching to do, - oh the travesty. fking TIVO let me do it when I was away for long weeks in a hotel room armed with an HDMi lead....dead handy trick and cemented my loyalty till the very end. Shame the new house isn't on their network, oh I miss you TIVO... frown

Damn ear injection. frown

Why don't you do what they did in Victorian times when they had an infection, eventually die?

They weren't paying a small mortgage to the providers of their entertainment, expecting it to work during prime enjoyment times of the week. I am also pretty sure their forms of entertainment didn't come with ridiculously draconian forms of theft prevention as well.

One of the reasons why I'm fked off with Sky. Our box kept losing its signal and then to send an engineer out to check it, they wanted an extra £60 on top of the £60 a month I already pay. When I explained (nicely and politely) why I thought it was wrong to charge people for an engineer, they couldn't have cared less. When I went onto say that I might cancel my subscription because of it, the guy on the other end said his goodbyes and transferred my call to the cancellation department! With a lot of persuasion and a bit of trickery, the Mrs managed to get an engineer out for free but I still won't be staying with Sky when we move at the end of the month.

Before Sky I was with Virgin for 3 years. In that time I never once lost my TV signal or Broadband signal. Guess who I'll be going back to?

Their equipment is a load of ste too. The 0 on the remote no longer works, the box crashes and needs resetting more than Windows and the router keeps cutting out if you download at more than 750 kb/s.

Strange to hear this, but I guess it depends upon your equipment, where your dish is installed, and maybe where you're located?

I've had Sky here on the South Coast since 2005, and it's never died a death due to weather. And, my house is also on top of an exposed hill, with the dish on the South side of the house, which cops most of the South Westerly rain and wind.

I do occasionally go outside and spray the dish and all the fittings with WD40 because I've seen other local dishes start to go rusty - so this might have helped?

Oh - actually I DO remember one occasion back in 2009, when it was snowing like a bd outside one evening - yeah, the signal did go. But all I had to do was go outside, reach up to the dish with a broom, and sweep the half-inch of snow off it, and all was well again.

My Sky+ box is now also 9 years old, but still works perfectly, records and plays back everything. The only thing that occasionally happens is that the sound and picture go a little out of sync, but switching it off and back on again sorts that...

If you look in the service menu, what's your signal strength like?

Does the weather actually blow the satellite?

Otherwise, a good enough rant.
Perhaps read a book, post more rubbish on here, or have one off the wrist.

Look on the bright side- if you have been looking forward to it all day, you can at least continue looking forward whilst the service is screwed. Exciting times.

I believe the rain interrupts the signal.

If I remember this thread I will do. Might as well do and you're the first to ask.

I knew what he meant, as ours did the exact same thing, even though you have stuff recorded, it won't let you watch anything if you don't have a signal. If we tried watching a recording with no signal it would just say initialising.

They also stop you watching anything that you might have recorded whilst on a higher priced subscription package. My MIL had a load of films recorded from sky movies, but when she cancelled the movie channels, the recordings became useless. I can see why they do it but it does seem a little cheeky if you've recorded them whilst you were paying for them.

The only position for my dish means that if we have mega strong winds a tree just flicks into its sight line, it will be fine for ages and then all of a sudden there is a big gust just as someone scores a goal/gets their tits out/crashes and it has a 1 second glitch irked

My satellite internet has gone off too. PH is about all I can barely manage on 3G. Its gusting 50mph too - might be a long night.

Rain fade is a bd for any type of satellite comms, particularly a cheap solution like Sky. I heavy experience of heavy rain significantly disrupting high powered military satellite comms networks. It is an area that a lot of money is invested in to try find a decent resolution.

Moreover, £60 / month for TV, 90% of which is free to air for the good stuff yikes At that price, I'm pleased I ditched Sky and went BT Vision a couple of years back!

I had an ear infection once. All I did was talk to people I knew and liked. Most of the time, they spoke back with answers to my questions and, in some cases, asked me questions and expressed opinions in return. I simply ignored the flashy, beepy box in the corner and had a thoroughly adequate experience.

Oh, and listened to music with my ear that didn't have herpeghonnesyphilliaids.

That was a good day. A good day indeed.

At the risk of a sensible reply, the box requires a validation signal every 12 hours (It used to be an hour without signal, now it's 12) in order to allow decryption of the stored programs. No signal for more than 12 hours and your box won't play back any recorded content. Why? SO you can't order Sky Movies, record a dozen (or more) movies then take movies off and still watch.
