Hi all

I know this is cheeky but I'm selling a car and had a prospective buyer due to view it today but has now pulled out as he's had an Autotrader vehicle check undertaken but the mileage is showing as 4 times what it has done and 80k more than the last MOT in March '13. The car is less than 5 years old, we bought at 1 year old and 10k miles so know it hasn't done any more miles than the Speedo says.

Does anyone have any free vehicle checks they'd be prepared to help a fellow PH'r out with?

By all means PM me if preferred...

Thanks

Google it up. You can do it yourself and a basic one is about a tenner or up to thirty quid for a bit more advanced. Print it off and invite the buyer to do their own also to verify.

This doesn't make any sense. The only record of mileage is at MOT time, so where does this 80k since last MOT come from?

Or are you saying an earlier MOT shows 80k above the last one?

Check the MOT history online - that'll show you the mileage at every (both?) tests it's had.

Something doesn't add up? If the op bought it at a year old on 10k why is it showing 150 to 170k now? If the op bought a clocked car that's a hell of a lot of miles in 1 year!!

Exactly! Maybe the buyer didn't want it and made it up as an excuse. I've emailed the checker people for them to check their records as I can't understand where they'd get their info from other than the MOT.

I just looked it up and it said it's been scrapped in Japan at well over 400k.

I bet that's the last time you buy a car from Dorian Gray Motor Village.

The free check I just used suggests the car has now done 532,456 miles, and for that reason, ah'm oot.

When I sold a car recently it was 2 years old. I was written to by a company I think they were called national mileage register or something like that who asked me to write back and confirm the mileage car was on.

Thanks, maybe this has something to do with it.

DIY free MOT history check: http://motinfo.direct.gov.uk/internet/jsp/ECHID-In...

Sounds like a cock-up by DVLA. Discrepancy between last MOT certificate and their records.

I have now made contact with the autocheck people who have confirmed it's an error DVLA end so will be rectified. Doesn't change the fact we have lost a sale but that's the way it goes I suppose!
