Where to buy a used VW Polo car?

Hi all,

I am looking to buy my first car which potentially is a VW Polo (2008 or later). The trouble is where do you buy used cars these days from the average joe over a car dealership? As pretty much all the cars on AutoTrader are being sold by car dealers the same applies to PistonHeads Classified section.

Do people these days chop in their cars to garages for a new one because it's easier than selling it themselves?

a bit of both, you can select just to see private or dealer cars on the search.
You pay more from a dealer but often get warranty etc. Private is more risky but often a better deal if you know what you are looking for.
I use Autotrader, Pistonheads and eBay

For me it's the local paper for a cheap car (avoid T code traders), but a decent used car place for a higher price, and a franchised dealer if I'm spending many thousands.

If I were buying a 5 year old Polo, it falls somewhere in the middle of the spectrum, and I'd start with Autotrader to get a feel for the market. There are some private ads on there.
